| I noticed that for The Championship in rugby union they are using two-legged ties to decide the league. Would this work for any of our games? I'm not the greatest rugby league historian, have we had these in the past?
I do think it probably detracts from the excitement of the one off game, but perhaps a little bit fairer.
Would be interesting to see how coaches would approach them.

| Its a little bit unfair as the scores can blow out so easy in RL. In one game 2 blokes could get carried off and the score could blow out making the second game redundant, its harder for that to happen in other sports imo

This is why events unnerve me.: |
|
| In the years after WW2 challenge cup first round ties were two legged as were premiership semi finals in the late 1970s / early 80s.

| Quote: Steve Fox "In the years after WW2 challenge cup first round ties were two legged as were premiership semi finals in the late 1970s / early 80s.'"
They started in 1941-42 when Broughton Rangers, Leigh, Liverpool Stanley, Salford, Swinton and Warrington all dropped out of playing. Thus due to a lack of teams in Lancashire - Wigan, St Helens and Oldham entered the Yorkshire Cup and it was deemed fairer for those sides to play the ties over two legs. The Challenge Cup followed suit later that year and so did the Championship Play Off final.
After the War had ended and full competition returned - the first rounds of the Challenge and County Cups remained over two legs up to and including 1953-1954.
Then in 1969-70 the Preliminary Round of the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy was held over two legs up to 1973-74.
I'm not sure the Premiership games were ever over two legs myself, but might be wrong?

| Quote: Steve Fox "Widnes were definitely involved in two legged Premiership semi-finals in 1978 (v HKR) and 1980 (Leeds).
The respective games are towards the bottom of the following pages...
So they were. Wigan were busy getting relegated in between those seasons so I missed that lol.

Wigan did get to the semi final in the season inbetween but it was a one-off game, presumably because of fixture congestion after the big freeze earlier in the 78/79 season.

| Instead of two legs why not have a 27 game season to decide the champions?
Sorry, bitter Warrington fan.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Maybe this is the way forward for the WCC. The English club goes overseas at the end of the season. The NRL club comes here at the usual time.

| The problem as I see it with two legged affairs is how the conditions can affect a game and make equally good wins less significant. For example I'd say beating someone 20-10 in a mud bath surrounded by gale force rain is a better result than 11-0 in glorious conditions
At least in a one off game, particularly at a neutral ground, is that all the conditions are equal for all in the entire situation
