Surely to get to the top flight of refereeing you must along the way be tested for basic numerical abilities.

Whats the solution a recorded 5 being shouted over the tannoy?

The one match suspension clearly worked well when he did this to us a few weeks ago, so why not; it's obviously had a lasting impact on him.

As someone on our board suggested - he should be given a 6 game suspension but made to serve 7.

Ben Thaler regularly loses count of the tackles. I've heard him numerous times on Sky asking what tackle they're up to!

Which demonstrates quick thinking and making best use of the resources that are available to him.

It's not that difficult.

Change the system to A - F tackles or reduce to 5 so it's easy to count on one hand

I know it's possible to count 6 tackles on one hand (if your from.......................)

Bentham gave Saints 7 tackles twice and Cas 5 tackles once (2 radio stations also mentioned this "anomaly", as Radio Leeds put it) last season but nothing came of that....but Bentham is loved by the RFL so it's fine for him to do it.

Interesting to see that in the WendyBall game, Wigan Athletic have been given a direct apology by the head of referring for "unacceptable" errors made in the ChelseavWigan game. As a result it appears that the FA wont take any action over the Wigan managers outburst post game as effectively, he was right.

Wonder how many times, if ever, Mr Cummins has rang a SL coach to apologies and would a more open direct criticism of officials by coaches make them more accountable (Not talking the 50/50, interpretation calls, but those plain straightforward blatant C0CK-UPS!!!

May I ask who exactly this Mr Cummins is that you speak of and why should he ring the SL coaches to apologise?

They need to be careful with this. The refereeing in the Saints v Wigan game was absolutely horrendous, so why isn't he banned as well? If you are going to ping one ref with a suspension, you have to start doing it to them all when they are poor.

It all comes back to the fact that the referees in Super League are there purely because they are the only fools who put their hands up to do the job. They are not competent people and should not be in such roles. The touch judges are worse.

Mr Morgan and Mr Agar would say not - the latter tried that approach last season after Mr Child's disgraceful performance in the Hull v Castleford game, and was slapped with a 6 grand fine under the Respect agenda.

If coaches are openly critical of ref's in SL, there appears to be a closing of ranks.

IIRC it was also Bentham who bottled the red card when Tommy Lee made a stiff arm tackle right in front of him.

TBH, of course its not hard to count to five, but its one more thing to be thinking about when I'd prefer as much attention as possible is given to the play. Wouldn't be hard to have a large, but cheap digital display in each corner giving the tackle count, controlled from upstairs. Handy for spectators too.

Or they can do what I do when I am watching and count as the tackles are completed.
By the way am not a RL offical of an discription but somehow manage it.
