| rlGhana is spearheading a drive to establish Rugby League in West Africa as part of a groundbreaking development initiative. Driven by a coalition of stakeholders in Europe and Africa, the project will be unique in its design, with a multilateral, cross-sector approach. This will see hand-picked local staff given an intensive rugby league initiation plus a long-term education programme to help them establish the sport in Ghana.rl
Ghana is the first of a series of countries that is being targeted in the region, with Togo, Nigeria and Sierra Leone also on the long-term agenda. The initiative meets RLIF objectives within the context of the Commonwealth Games Federation, which recognised the sport in 2011, to develop the sport in Commonwealth regions with sp rugby league activity, especially Africa and the Caribbean.

| Sierra Leone, Gambia to the west. Nigeria and Cameroon to the east. Ghana has a population of approaching 24 million, which is more than the others except Nigeria. Just shy of a whopping 154 million people there.

| Its just good to see League expand. As far as i can tell Cameroun, Nigeria and Togo are the only countries that play any Rugby code.

| Couldn't agree more. If rugby league could establish a domestic competition in Ghana, it would be a significant achievement.

| There are a few cities in Ghana, so there could be a 10 team domestic league. Cities such as Kumasi could have a team or two.

Quite a lot in actual fact. www.facebook.com/GhanaRugbyLeague
Ghana representatives were present at the RLEF AGM last week. There was also apparently an item on the agenda regarding future West African development in a Commonwealth context.
