| “Chop you in half and the word 'Manly’ is written right through you,” Hemmings said, oblivious to the fact that this sounded uncannily like a chat-up line.

| I don't like to give the Torygraph credit for anything, but that's spot on. Eddie and Stevo are well past their sell-by date. We need commentators who are serious and insightful, as well as passionate about the game. They've had a good run, but it's time to put them out to grass.

| The biggest problem is that Stevo doesn't understand the game.
His first criticism (of the staggering Manly winger handing on the kick off to a rampaging forward) was wrong, as was his second and then his third contribution was to praise something which should have been criticised!
Sky need to get someone by Eddie's side who actullay understands the modern game!!!

| Carney and, for all his faults, Clarke are way better that E&S. Time to pension them off and get a new team.

| I've been saying for a while, Eddie now need to be in the studio and used as a presenter. He's still the face of RL and a polished presenter, so it would be unfair and wrong to get rid completely.
The commentating duties, however, need to be handed over now, to a man who actually calls the game as it happens. Eddie used to do that, but now he's offering too many opinions - that's not his job. That's for the summarisers to do.
Eddie and Stevo come across these days as people who are too comfortable, safe in the knowledge they'll never be booted out.

Stevo has just got another 5 year contract with Sky

| I'm not keen on the supercilious tone of the article, but he's broadly right.
I would suggest that Eddie and Stevo represent a barrier to entry for new adopters of the game, since they talk utter claptrap for the most part and singularly fail to properly explain the rules of the game; they've been at it so long, they have a series of stock phrases and in-jokes that get trotted out game after game and despite Carney's best efforts, they won't be swayed. I think this Sky 'outfit' have got to 'get the message out there' - it's time to 'utilise the skill factor' and 'try something a bit different.'
My suggested cabinet re-shuffle - Eddie and Stevo out to grass with Balding or Arnold in to front the coverage and Carney in the Stevo role. Put Clarkey back at pitchside and never, ever let him play with a laptop again - the margin meter and his KPI's must be consigned to the scrapheap of embarassing failures. The rest of the coverage could be ably filled by the remaining incumbents - Wells, Arthur et al, with current players rotated in to comment on aspects of the modern game from a position of actually knowing what they're talking about, which would be quite a novelty.

| Bill Arthur is a much better commentator than either Eddie or Stevo. I'd give him the main role with McDermott or Carney alongside and the usual guest summariser. Eddie could be confined to the studio. Stevo and Clarke should go completely - they are both absolutely awful.

The bloke who wrote the article is wind up merchant. He wrote an article about channel 5' coverage of football last week which seemed like it had been written before even watching the show.
www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyleague/
It's their main headline in the rl section and reading the other stories it appears that only 3 games were played at the weekend too

Do you not think he makes good points, though?
I do believe they hold the game back. They enjoy the game clearly, but it has got very tired. We could be a much more attractive package to newcomers and casuals if the game had a clean up.
He probably does sum up the view that 'southerners' have of Rugby League. We need to try break free of that

Good summary.
Eddie is fine for pre-match, post-match and half-time. SteveO could offer opinion/comment/character on BnA. Although Barrie McDermott is better ('Rinaldi is too short' being an exceptional example of him saying something stupid last night ).
The commentary could do with refreshing.

| Bill Arthur and Brian Carney as 'pilots' with Barry Mac chipping in. Phil Clarke back to pitch side.
