| What I can't understand is why we're due to have a 14 team WC, rather than 16. The depth thing isn't an excuse (as today's result shows). It would look much more credible having 4 pools of 4.

Italy drew with Lebanon and legitimately topped the group so certainly deserve their spot. This could be a real boost to RL in Italy which is really starting to take off. I’m off to Italy for Christmas so I will try and catch a Padova game

| To be fair to the RFL, the 08 world cup was a great success with 10 times, while 2000 was a disaster with 16. The RFL probably wanted to build on the 08 success, without saturating it and gettng the results we had in 2000. Disappointed Lebanon didn't make it, some great things been done in that country for RL.

It's a fantastic opportunity for Australian rugby league players of Italian descent.

It was always a shame that one of Lebanon or Italy had to miss out on the World Cup. I personally think Lebanon should have been awarded one of the 12 automatic places. Still, I'm sure someone has a good reason as to why Scotland are deemed more worthy of an automatic place than them, despite the fact that nobody gives a rats about RL north of the border.
It was the ridiculous venues chosen which was the cause of the 2000 World Cup disaster, not the number of teams involved.
