Referee was fine. His only error cost Saints the game when he gave Wigan a scrum they didn't deserve. Why in that instance they can't just continue from the point of the mistake with the count continuing is beyond me.

He'd already stopped play for a Wigan knockon before being overruled by the touch judge.

The obstruction try could have been given by a different video ref as well. Still not happy about letting Ganson being involved.

But it was the right decision today as a dummy runner deliberately makes contact with a defender who isn't looking for him. Lomax played it well, putting his arms up and looking round Tomkins as he ran into him, making it obvious he wasn't going for the dummy runner.

Saints were unlucky on the reversed decision for a few reasons. One, it was Childs as touch judge and not one of the anonymous ones that wouldn't raise the flag for anything and secondly the pass that Shenton touched was miles forward in the first place.

Decision to scrum was correct. Decision to blow whistle was wrong.

If the ref mistakenly blows whistle, decision is scrum to team in posession.

In this instance, what would have been the difference anyway? Wigan had ball back at zero - instead had a scrum for tackle 1.

You make easy metres from a scrum and it disrupts the defensive line.

Saints touched the ball, Wigan got it back - should have been play on at tackle 1, with a broken defensive line, but ref blew up wrongly.

On acknowledging the mistake, he correctly gave scrum to Wigan, slightly further back down the field. Saints therefore had a structured defence back in play.

No drama there for Saints. Refs only mistake was not playing on with Wigan at zero and a broken field to attack.
