excellent news
theyve always struggled financially since being admitted to the ARL so this will make them able to compete with any other NRL club
the area produces loads of juniors and is a real RL town
with the new grand stand being completed its all looking good for RL in the city of newcastle

| Looks a good deal, guarantees them a min $10mill income from sponsorship/corporates. Can't change the clubs colours, name or location without 75% of members agreeing, if he pulls out the members can buy the club back for $1. This deal will put the Knights into the top 5 or 6 income clubs with an income in excess of $17mill a year. You have to think his business contacts and profile will also help the club in numerous ways. They just need to get a better stadium deal and the Knights are set to be a powerhouse club for the next decade. Makes you wonder though what impact on the CC bid it will have if that happens.

You'd have to suspect it would impact a bit.
My one & only match at Grahame Park was Neagles v Knights. No prizes for guessing which side appeared to have the lion's share of support in the crowd. And it was a season-opener as well!

private ownership is the way to go
get rl clubs run by successful businessmen rather than ex players who know js

| What is going on with the Knights and Nathan Tinkler?
Apparently he's put an offer in for the Knights but they haven't made a decision yet. Then there's the story that Kade Snowden was going to re-sign with the Sharks the other day but then told the Sharks he wanted more time as a big offer had come in from Tinkler, $1.6m over 4 years i think it was. Now he's made another offer for big money to Jamal Idris and rumours that he wants Mick Ennis from the Dogs aswell as he's out of contract at the end of this season. There all Newcastle juniors and Tinkler wants to bring them back to the Knights.
How can he start making offers to people when he has no involvment in the club whatsoever? I know he might buy the club but surely until he does he cant be going around offering big contracts to players from other clubs. Will the NRL step in and do anything about this or cant they as he has nothing to do with the Knights?
It will be good for the Knights if he takes over surely, they'll be a good chance of winning the comp if he starts throwing money at top players but how's he gonna fit them all under the salary cap anyway?

| As long as he stays away from Dugan, he can have all the fun he likes.
Your point about a current outside entity making players offers is a good one, but I haven't heard that contracts have been put in front of anyone. Sounds like verbal promises at the moment, which can't be illegal and can never be prevented anyway.
This is the first i've heard of Idris and Ennis. I thought Idris just signed a new deal with the Dogs?

| when finished this year the new ground will hold 38,000 apparently or well over 30,000
tinkler has already said they will push memberships hard so crowds well over 20,000 should be the norm
newcaslte is a massive RL town and for too long theyve not kept their juniors because the knights were poor
no longer

check todays papers, idris has been offered $350,000 / pa by tinkler
tinkler will get the club so i dont see why they should lose players on formality

| Unless the Knights have got a load of players off contract at the end of this year how can Tinkler be offering big contracts for next season even if he does buy the club?
He's apparently offered Snowden $400k a year for 4 years. Idris $350k a year for 3 years, Ennis will be something very similar i'd imagine.
Kurt Gidley is also in his last year and is discussing a new deal with them which will be bigger than anyone there trying to sign, probably round the $500k mark. No doubt Uate will play for NSW this year and will want an improved offer, especially after the season he had.
Plus they've already got a few Rep stars already, Costigan has just signed for 3 years, Houston has just gone back on a reported $220k a year, guys like Sau and Taia play for NZ so they wont be on peanuts and neither will Mullen.
I wonder how many players are OOC at the end of this season.

| i agree with what youve said here :
1, as russel crowe has shown at souths, they seem to have a flexible salary cap when you have a rich owner behind them. souths get inglis, have burgess on $190,000 etc and still want SBW.
2. id assume any offers tinkler has made are only informal anyway subject to him getting the club
3. all these guys are newcastle juniors anyway so im happy for them to return home and i dont mind if they bend the salary cap a little.
but i get what your saying :
1. he isnt the club owner yet
2. these offers will kill their salary cap
