Would prefer North Wales Crusaders myself.

I personally think that clubs need some kind of area in their title to help people identify themselves with it. But not too big and not too small (i.e. don't call it "Wales". I hate the "NZ" part of the Warriors).

Who would it alienate calling it "Wrexham" anyway? Don't most of their fans come from there?

One thing I'd definitely like to see though is a new badge. That current one is naff and looks out of place.

As a purist, I take the view that a team should have an association with a geographic place, commonly towns and cities - and this city or town should take precedence in the name of the team. Like Arsenal FC - d'oh!

No seriously, Crusaders RL sounds a bit naff. Wrexham Crusaders has more credibilty on paper, but then - Wrexham in and of itself was not the dream location for this "Welsh" franchise. What was wrong with Celtic, anyway? Sounds vague and antiquated enough to suggest "non-english".

The problem with Celtic was idiots being unable to pronounce it. (k)eltic not (s)eltic.

I think it's fine as it is, but if there were to be a name change I agree with Wellsy, in that some geographical reference would benefit the club. North Wales Crusaders.

The Crusaders is fine. Could even get a big sponsor and name it 'x' Crusaders, never did PSV any harm

Or most of the basketball teams in Europe, or the new Australian rugby union team in Melbourne.

But the football team grew-out of the company. It was a works team. That's a bit different from just slapping a company name onto an already existing club blurring the lines between capitalist exploitation, and the sincere connections of consumers, I mean, supporters.

Wrexham Crusaders is a great name.

1. The club are 'welsh' (apart from the players)

2. The club are from Wrexham

The name 'Crusaders' doesnt give the club an identity. Successful clubs in SL all have the name of their geographic location as part of their club name (Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos etc etc)


Everyone knows Wrexham is in Wales.

Without looking it up how many people know what town or city Rugby Union Super 14 sides come from when they have names like 'Bulls' 'Crusaders' or 'Blues'?



Wrexham Crusaders gets my vote

North Wales Crusaders for me. For non RL people who are not good at geography it instantly tells them that RL is played in more than just the Nth of England.

How about Cymru Crusaders?

But how many people will pronounce it 'Kaimeroo' Crusaders?

Why not rename them Other Nationalities XIII Crusaders or New South Wales and
Queensland Crusaders.
