Can someone please explain to me what happens about licenses when one team is dropped and one team is promoted at the end of next season.
When is relegation back!

er...1 current superleague team goes down to CH1 for at least 3 years and and 1 current CH1 side gets to play in superleague for 3 years at least...
Teams currently in the frame to go down include Salford, Castleford, Wakefield, Quins and Crusaders.....teams in the frame to go up.....too many to list all, but Widnes would be the most aggrieved if they were again ovelooked.

FWIW, Petone Panthers would do OK in the Championship IMO, as would Wainuiomata Lions....some pretty handy players plying their trade in the wellington region.

I would have thought its only the top level C 1 sides who may have to only add several new players, C 1 sides in 4th or 5th place down wards would need 85%+ new recruits.

Only seen them once this year...they lost 4-12 to the panthers on a horrible day.....they are sitting 7th from 8 in the premier comp......2 wins, 2 draws from 12 games.....
Petone were doing OK til last week when the wianui lot (2nd) rolled them at home...and they face the comp leaders porirua this weekend with the upper hutt tigers being the last day game. Wianuiomata would be the favourites to win the comp....big bunch of lads who can move as well.

As dull and boring as some may think SL is, the speed of the game alone would mean that the majority of current championship players would have trouble adjusting......(see the years when P&R existed and the yo-yoing of teams who weren't ready.)
I have no doubt there are a few players in the Championship who wouldn't look out of place in a SL side, but I still think Widnes (for example, if they get the nod) would have at least 20 NEW faces at the club...if not more. It will be interesting to see what happens if say, castleford (just an example...not starting another bunfight) were to be demoted......how many players would be signed by the team replacing them? We are told that the UK game is short on real talent......would the castleford club be able to afford to keep their current squad? Same applies for Wakey, Salford, Quins, Crusaders etc...... |
