NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

And some people want these selfish clowns running the whole game again! It's the same country ffs, what does it matter which state they play in???
Quote: "NSWRL boss Geoff Carr says any Canberra Raiders player who appears in a Queensland Cup match next year will be barred from the NRL for the remainder of the season.
Carr has stepped up his bid to force the Raiders to compete in the NSW Cup next season, a move that will almost certainly cause Canberra's Queensland Cup feeder side Souths Logan to fold.
Speaking at yesterday's NSW Cup launch, the NSWRL and ARL chief executive said the Raiders would not be permitted to send excess players to Souths Logan once their current deal expires at season's end.
They must instead enter their own team in the NSW Cup, or form an alliance with an existing NSW-based club that would then enter the state's premier over-age competition.
''We've got a commitment to have NSW players play in NSW,'' Carr told The Canberra Times yesterday.
''The Australian Rugby League now has a rule in place that if you're a NSW-based player you're required to play in NSW.
''You can't go back and forth. We're not opposed to NRL clubs supporting Queensland Cup sides, but when the players go up there they can't come back.
''Once a player participates in a competition up there that's where he stays for the season.''
Raiders chief executive Don Furner was shocked when The Canberra Times informed him of Carr's threat.
Furner is adamant the Raiders are best served sending their excess players to Souths Logan, an arrangement they have had in place since the Premier League competition was axed at the end of the 2008 season.'"

| Don't have a problem with the NSWRL telling teams who are in NSWRL not to play their reserve grade players in another comp. It helped lower the standard of the NSWRL Premier League last year by Canberra and MANLY going up there, when they could have stayed down here.

| Reality is though there isn;t a pokie funded team they could link up with in Canberra or Southern NSW so they would have to fund the NSW Cup team themselves. Somethign Sydney teams refused to do hence the dropping of reserve grade so they could partner with externally funded clubs. That and Canberra has a very long association with Souths Logan going back decades.
There is no logic for this beyond the NSWRL spitting the dummy and trying to get one over on the QRL. Exactly why these idiots need booting and some fresh blood with new ideas and a greater appreciation of what is needed in the 21st century to take our game forward.

It's a travesty. He's trying to prop up a failing competition at the expense of a more successful one.
Aside from the fact the bloke is (and always has been) a of the first order, he also doesn't have a legal leg to stand on.
Canberra is in the ACT - the Australian Capital Territory - and not in NSW. This is a very clear legal distinction and aplies to drivers licenses, police powers, local government jurisdictions, workplace relations and health-and-safety etc.

I didn't say they were in NSW, I said they were in the NSWRL. That's where they've played for donkeys years.
Their juniors play in the comp and here's a link to the NSWRL website.

They could have found one. They chose not to.
As for the comment, dropping of reserve grade, think about how the Toyota Cup has had a direct effect on that comp regarding costs on NRL clubs.

No there isn;t and they couldn;t. Linking up with a Sydney pokie funded club would be no different to linking with a Q'land one. Raiders are already funding the Raiders cup and as said run a range of junior comps as well as other level teams in teh NSWRL so what is there problem? I still await an answer from anyone who can give a reasonable reason why ACT players should have to play in a NSW comp over a Q'land comp.

Course there are mate. Why are you harping on about a Sydney "pokie" club? When there are lots of local clubs?
If Wayne Bennett can choose Shellharbour for the Dragons. Then Canberra could have chosen more local. Newcastle played in their local comp (which is even weaker) then Canberra could have chosen from dozens of clubs, if they were willing to help fund them. They chose QLD because of a special arrangement they have and the history of QLD players playing for Canberra.
Raiders are also paying for a Toyota Cup team. Any coincidence that they stopped playing their own reserve grade in 2008, the year this over hyped Jersey Flegg comp started. As did Penrith, Dragons and Parramatta. This was followed a year later by Manly and Knights.
Because they're members of the NSWRL and the NSWRL have got the hump that they chose to go up to QLD. Maybe they felt belittled by that???

| Exactly, and feeling your nose has been pushed out of joint is no way to make far reaching decisions that affect the whole code. NSWRL need to grow up and look at individual clubs circumstances before making stupid carte blanche rules. The fact the ARL has backed them goes to show the old cronism is still alive and well. No wonder the QRL is so sceptical of teh ARL and the I.C.
