Yeah ive posted this elsewhere too but just posting here to get a bigger responce:
William Hills are doing a survey of sporting legends (no this is not leading to a spam post).
Basically as they put it:
".....is giving you the opportunity to vote for your favourite sporting legends and see them inducted into the brand new William Hill Sporting Bar at Kempton Park racecourse. The exclusive online poll features past and present sports heroes from 13 different categories and the winner of each category, as voted for by you, will be honoured with their picture on the exclusive Sporting Icons wall in the new bar"
I am half suprised we have not been ignored as a sport totally. But we have been dealt another blow....We have been lumped in with another sport. "12. Rugby Legends". Then it got me thinking about the St Helens team of the year at the Sports Personality of the Year awards....Where lots of supporters of the game (not just saints) voted en mass.
Just a question of which 'Rugby Legend' we all get behind?

It's not, but you could write Sean Long in the 'other' box underneath the names.
Billy Boston was rubbish and people wouldn't associate him with league, they would assume he was a fat union player. Should be Hanley IMO.

| Billy Boston rubbish? Do you respect the history of our game at all? He was the greatest British winger in arguably the Golden Age of Rugby League. He made his name as a League player - in fact he couldn't play for Cardiff Rugby Union because of the colour of his skin!!
How many modern "Legends" like Sean Long could pull an 8,000 crowd for their debut in the Reserves?? AND he hasn't walked out of a Lions tour!!
Billy Boston is still well loved (and I mean LOVED) in Wigan and the wider Rugby League family and clearly qualifies as a sporting icon.
All hail Billy!!!!

Hanley all the way. He's [istill[/i the man every one of my mates down ere - who know sod all about RL - associate with our sport. And aside from his stint at Donny he's been out of the game for a decade and was in his pomp way back in the late 80's/early 90's! He's certainly the greatest player to have come from these shores, and with the respect he retains down under even today, arguably the greatest icon of Rugby League.
Billy Boston, rubbish
