I have noticed that unlike the Super League the player's names do not appear on the NRL jerseys.

Is there any particular reason for this?

Probably a Superleague thing.

Back in 1997 the Aussie Superleague clubs used to have their names on their shirts before it went to the NRL

I know Cronulla did because I have a jumper from that era with 'Ettingshausen' on it

They don't have squad numbers in the NRL so they can't put names on shirts as if players swapped positions they'd have to have new shirts every time.

In Australia you have to earn your jersey every week.

Origin jumpers used to have names on them.

I asked my old man why he never wore replica jerseys. He said you had to earn the right to wear the jersey.
