If you look through our attendances in sl we have generally averaged about 7k, despite most years being nearer the bottom of the table than the top we've got two of the 5 games we usually get poor attendances in (hudds, salford, cats, crusader and quins) out of the way now, when we host, wire, leeds, fc, wigan, wakey and bradford we will get 7, 8 and 9k crowds.

| Dave, what do you think the crowd will be against us at your place? We won't bring many as it won't be feasible for most on a Friday evening? Do you think the Friday experiment will work?

I think the crowd will be 3200. I imagine you will bring more than Huddersfield did on our last Friday night game, and a few more of our supporters will crawl out of the woodwork seeing as we are winning a few matches.
If it was a Saturday night, with your supporters making a day/weekend out of it, and our supporters being able to make a day out of it rather than rushing from work/not being able to make the match, we could get 4000 I think.
I don't like Friday nights and I don't think it will work, our kick offs should be Saturday 3pm or Saturday 6pm.

I seriously can't see many coming. Few of us are but its required booking time off work, hotel etc. Been twice previously on a sunday and the crowds have been respectable.
I noticed the Saints coach had a dig at your away following on friday night. Again though, what does he expect, its hardly practical travelling from london to widnes on a week day night.

Huddersfield brought 400 or so, so I don't see why you can't? Historically you travel down South far better than they do. I know what you mean though, there is no way I can get up North for a Friday night match unless time off work.

The man is a clueless numpty, and it appears most St Helens supporters would concur.

| Quote: Dave Lister "Not those on this thread, by the looks of things.
That is very fair, unlike your brothers who decide to bring the population of Richmond into their defence.
I'm not continuing the argument slagging Castleford off, all I did was attempt to defend my own side, like you are doing. This is a discussion forum, is it not? It is the same on the Harlequins forum, I don't really see the point in discussing success stories. It's not particularly interesting. Challenges and problems are interesting - the reasons for them, and the reasons to get over them.'"
The thread was about a refereeing decision in a game that didn't even involve Quins. Some half wit decided to go off topic completely & have a go at Cas for the poor crowd and instead of sticking to the original subject you waded in with your post; "Welcome to the world of being a poorly supported club. No excuse for your woeful attendance tonight."
Its no good trying to claim the moral high ground by claiming "..all I did was attempt to defend my own side.." when nobody would have mentioned Quins or their crowds had you kept your mouth shut.

I'm not trying to claim any moral highground, I was explaining to Fully why I was posting what I was. Can you not read?

No one mentioned Quins or Cas' attendances. There was nothing to defend. In the nicest possible way, you are starting to make yourself look a little silly.

| FWIW the decision was the correct one I felt, although in the context of the game I wouldn't have been surprised in the slightest had that scrum gone the other way. I thought Catalans got away with murder with regards to slowing the game down and can't remember the last time I left a match feeling that frustrated and angry after a win. Had they been punished for intereference and laying on as they should have, they'd never have got hold of the ball - 5 and 6 second play the balls are not the way forward for this game. Still, Cas rose above it and played some great rugby to win the match where in previous seasons we'd have just been dragged into a scrap and thrown it away.
The crowd was crap to be honest, numbers wise anyway. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric and actually better than it's been for a long time. One thing nobody seems to have considered when talking about people saving money, is that Cas is a largely working class area and will bear the brunt of the recession and current austerity measures more harshly than some more prosperous areas. That's not an excuse, just a bit of simple logic really. I too feel that Wheldon Road's ageing state is a factor in our attendances in general, and once the new stadium is built, we'll see an overall increase.

| Going back to the original point of this thread, I thought Bentham's decision was correct.
Sa was running towards the player with the ball in the knowledge that he would likely kick it and in doing so was 'pressuring the kicker'. He understandably turned as he thought the ball was about to be kicked but the fact remains he was there to try and affect the outcome of the kick, had he not been there the ball would have travelled upfield as intended by the kicker.
I have seen many occasions when the ref has given the decision the other way but on each I've disagreed with that decision.
This is an area though that would benefit from clarification by the authorities.

The decision was correct according to the interpretations we have been told through our Societies for the reason you state. If anyone has seen an example contrary to this that is on video it would be interesting to see it.

Eh? You were the one who mentioned the attendence at the match! I concured. And it led to some moron relating local population to the amount of people at the match. He is the only one that looks silly tbh.

I don't see why relating the size of the crowd to the size of the local population warrants calling me a moron. As a forum moderator you should know better than to resort to personal abuse. Were you bullied at school perhaps?
