| if someone decided to build, say, wakefield a stadium 10 miles away from the city would it be the same issue?

No. What my signature says is that there are pro's and con's for having expansion into North America and that "away fans" are not that important. The Break even figure is 10,000 fans at games according to a number of RL chairmen, so yes, Home fans are important.....ask David Hughes who was bankrolling us to the tune of £2,000,000 back when we had 4,500 home fans.

No break even is income coming in and expenditure going out. If you have good sponsorship tv deals etc you can get by on no fans potentially. I posted that previously on another thread.
If you have 5,000 fans but a £2m sponsorship deal then that gives you the same income probably as 10,000 fans and a 1 million pound sponsorship deal.

Yes but it's usually easier to retain your fans than sponsorship deals , and generally the bigger your fan base , the better sponsorship and TV deals you can get , it isn't a ' chicken and egg ' scenario

The Point is that 10,000 fans was declared by Hudgell as his need to have number so he'd stop having to prop Rovers up to the tune of 500k a year. Back to the Gymnastics teacher in NYC (or Jersey or any other area in the wider metropolitan area that could be associated with NYC)
The Red Bull Arena doesn't have any open areas to house a Beer Festival, but what it does have is food concessions already in place who will expect the 5,000 bewildered fans to buy from them. calling a 6k crowd an 8k crowd in a 9K stadium may work in Toronto, but 5k in a 25k state of the art stadium is hardly going to have them flooding back....it hasn't worked in the birthplace of the game and it won't work here either....5,700 in a 24k stadium looks bloody awful and this is an attempt to get Americans Hooked on the game? Google the recent USA V Jamaica Qualifier in Jacksonville......there were fewer than 100 people in attendance.......
......as for the £2,000,000 in sponsorship? Really? Argyle hailed his "contra deal" with the airline as the biggest ever then whined about the cost of extra tickets at the end of last season.......some people need to get a grip on reality.
If the RFL had an assurance of a £5,000,000 bond, the Rimmer would have been all over this, as would Nigel who was apparently out there doing more due diligence.....

Steve Mascord also tweets that they have letters of Intent from sponsors in the world of air travel and Hotels, with the Players for this pipe dream flying business class
Not exactly sure why Steve Mascord has anything to do with it, running an online shop is slightly different to been involved in a sports club. Farcical if you ask me.

Funny you should ask rl
I see that some posters on here and at other sites were happy with the crowd in Denver, the same way that Argyle handing out tickets to borderline alcoholic Canadians is seen as the future of the game and now we have a gym teacher claiming to have £5 million with which to launch the game in America.....to put that into perspective, David Hughes invested a similar sum to that amount in 2015 and 2016 whilst in the championship.
NZRL were left with a 6 figure unpaid appearance fee. Mooresportsinternational.com website is down, but their Linked in still has 130 followers....

| cheers, I asked those who were pushing the denver game the same question, but I got no answers.
I said before the game it was destined for disaster, the whole USA thing is too, the Toronto thing might work for a few years but the AMNRL has be slipping for a few years, even their facebook page now just promoted Union stuff.
They need to invest in the local comp aroudn New York properly for 10 years to get it going and get an 8 team comp running there with proper IRL backing then Toronto have a league they can join to bring people through into the SL team they will probably get.
Ultimately though, the losses will be difficult to keep going with. I want to see the USA/CAnada succeed but I don't think we are capable. literally .

I see there is a conversation on another forum site in regards to Toronto suggesting that theie opposition fly to Canada on the Friday Night, returning immediately after the game. This is because some players were unhappy about having to fly into Glasgow, whereas if they play on Saturday then fly home straight away then they can go to Manchester.
Meanwhile, the cynic in me see's this as nothing more than a further cost cutting exercise which will only benefit Toronto as their part-time opponents will be knackered........

And it would seem that Ricky Wilby doesn't have the green light to join in 2020, but he is instead trying to whip up anti RFL fervour if his pipe dream is rejected.....as much as I hate the RL media and League Express in particular, I'll take them over a radio show broadcast by fat middle aged men out of The Game Caller's nan's garage. HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_76030.jpg |
