As for Halifax - our problems stem from the fact that not enough people are coming through the turnstiles and yes, that's the club's problem to sort. This is why Widnes are best poised for 2012 because (millionaire businessman aside) they are getting the attendances. But dally doesn't read these parts of people's posts because it'll destroy his reason for living.'"
the fact you dont get enough fans through the gate is your clubs fault. its a failure over a very long time
frankly for a supposed heartland club its very, very poor.
as ive said before, where RL falls down is the failure of many heartland clubs to be as strong as they should be,

That's the Newcastle United that are currently playing in the second flight, is it?
I take it that you have not heard of Leeds United.
edit: and while we're on the subject Manchester United make vast profits and everybody knows that Arsenal stick to their budgets.

they are about to get promoted again.
crowds of 30,000. not bad for a 3rd division soccer side.

how many Premier LEague soccer clubs would survive without their sugar dadies?
but let me summarise the bitter old man thinking :
sugar daddy in soccer
Dally you really have no idea about British sport. Chelsea are regularly mocked for their reliance on Abramovich for instance. Nobody thinks that they could be described as "sustainable, healthy".

It's poor considering they were made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League a few years back. Championship football? Hold me back before I get too excited.
Leeds blew all their money chasing an unrealistic dream and at the same time left their stadium to rot away. Elland Road used to be a venue for semi-finals of major competitions as it was one of the top grounds in the North. Even if games were still held at neutral venues, nobody in their right mind would consider Elland Road to suitable.

They certainly shouldn't be losing 3 million a year and calling it "success".

You do realise that Man Utd may potentially have to sell their training ground, if not Old Trafford itself, to meet their current debt obligations, don't you? And Newcastle are hardly a beacon of financial responsibility. You really haven't got a clue about sport in your motherland, have you?

| Chelsea are fine until Abramovic decides he's had enough. Man Utd are desperately struggling for money, if they hadn't sold Ronaldo they'd have made a huge loss and are considering selling Rooney. Newcastle and Leeds have both found out the problems of spending money they don't have. They're both lucky theyve got large crowds to fall back on, even then it nearly finished off Leeds United.
Arsenal, I dont believe are spending money they don't have, they're signing players at very young ages for little money and using their academy and youth coaches to develop them.
Leeds and Saints have shown the way to go in RL, it's not in flashing your cash around (both Leeds and Wigan suffered from that approach) its in developing your youth systems. London Broncos/Harlequins suffered from trying to buy their team and only recently have changed their policy and is already starting to pay off.
The problem is that to develop players requires money to be spent itself, both in decent training facilities and good youth coaches and scouting. The "poorer" clubs are presumably reluctant to spend that money since it's not guaranteed to work quickly and there are plenty of decent Aussies available. The teams that get low crowds probably cant afford a decent academy set up without compromising the quality on the field for a few years.
It helps in SL now with no relegation but I can see why it is a problem for Championship teams.
So we need to grow the sport to increase participation at all levels, eventually get a succesful national team/competition and then hopefully increase crowds at all levels. But that can't be done without some short-term pain at some level, ie expansion.

what motherland. my parents aint from there. i just took an interest in the place solely because of RL.
failing that why would i bother.
australia is more like america these days anyway. once you lost your empire everyone just followed who was the new number 1.

Indeed. And had Ambramovich not taken an interest then they'd have gone down the Leeds United route. They had been chasing the dream under Bates and it looked like he'd had enough and was about to bail.
Quote: BigRob "Man Utd are desperately struggling for money, if they hadn't sold Ronaldo they'd have made a huge loss and are considering selling Rooney.'"
In their case, they were doing fine until the Yank took them over. As I'm sure you'll agree Manchester United's success came from Fergie picking up bargains early on, then from their academy system and only later through flashing the wallet on selected occasions.
