Although I am in no way trying to back up Baz/Phipps/Katie/whatever he wants to call himself now, I think comparing two plain white shirts in football (of which there are probably tons of professional clubs that have them as their home shirt in this country), there is only one that has a red V on a white shirt. It's quite distinctive, unlike a plain white shirt. You wouldn't look at an England football shirt and think it looks like a Leeds shirt because why not Tottenham? Derby? Fulham? etc. It's not distinctive enough, where as the red V is pretty much a symbol of St Helens. | | |

If in the very unlikely circumstance they play each other, one will wear an alternate kit and they will likely tell us which team that is rather than playing a trick on a faux-aussie who is sat with his thumb up his ass watching gonzo porn and screaming loudly in the hope someone, anyone will call the police and then someone will be forced, by law to pay them some attention. |

In RL however, there is only a handful of each, and RL shirts tend to be a bit more distinctive than football shirts (which are more generic). You pick a design in RL and they don't tend to look like a whole bunch of club's shirts, but tend to only look like one, and so it loses identity. How many clubs traditionally have a shirt that looks like Australia's or New Zealand's for example? Or Great Britain? I think that is what people are wanting for England.
I think it's a bit unfair to compare what tend to be in the main rather generic football shirts with what have always tended to be rather distinctive and iconic RL shirts.
That said, would a white shirt with two red chevrons look too similar to a Saints shirt? Would that be distinctive enough? Or, like I said, one red chevron and one grey/charcoal chevron (the whole "St George Knight) thing?

Actually, something that bugs me quite a bit about RL strips is that despite the relatively small number of clubs there are loads of clashing kits. I realise there's not much we can do now about teams having similar traditional colours but I do wish they'd have had a bit more imagination at their inception. I mean, out of 14 clubs, 6 of them have a variety of red and white, while Warrington alternate their kit to a Leeds kit every other year. | | |

Crusaders are red and green.
The rest, yeah they're red and white (something I've talked about before), but they all have completely different styles. Catalans have yellow as well as Ted on the V, Salford have red as a base with white trim/or whatever they fancy, Wigan hoops, Saints V, Rovers a single red hoop. They're all distinctive whilst using similar colours. None are identical.

Usually, but not always. This year we have barely any white, some years we have more and couldn't both play in our home kit together. Whereas Saints, Catalans and KR all have mostly white with red, and Wigan, Salford Crusaders have mostly "red", the point being that nearly half the SL have very similar traditional colours. | | |

They aren't identical, no, but they do all share the same basic colour schemes and don't often stick to the same design (Saints being the exception, though even they stray from time to time). If we had a gallery of all the kits before the season started, minus badges and sponsors, we could have a right guessing game of who was supposed to be who, especially if you had Kooga designs in there. I mean, Rovers have a single red hoop, do they?

I think 2008 was the year that over half of SL clubs had a majority white kit. Hull had mainly white (with thin black hoops) and white shorts/socks. I think Bradford, Catalans, Saints, Hull KR, Wigan, Wakefield did as well, and on top of that, I think the remaining 5 clubs had a white away kit! | | | |
