He seems to get into the England set up, year on year, so somebody sure does.

He's actually a very good player, but niggly but does a lot of hard work and makes big plays when they are needed.

| Who actually rates Yeaman? I for one don't. One good season in the last 5.
He'll be struggling for selection next year, unless he goes to second-row.
Whoever said Whiting clearly knows nothing about the game. He's dependable and solid. Reads the game better than most and has covered every position on the field apart from hooker. If he was an ever present for England, you'd argue he was overrated but he goes about his business quietly, without fuss and is a mainstay of our team.
Most overrated for me is Rob Burrow. No-one dare tackle him because he constantly ducks his head, making him 2 foot 6 tall.

| Actually I remember reading a quote perhaps last year and it said Whiting has played every position during his time at Hull.

| Quote ="Bovrick"You haven't changed it for a long time if you still have Bowen and Stewart there
But you're right about Sinfield of course. He's a very good player but that accolade really was painfully overrating him.'"
Both Bowen and Stewart have been injured for a big part of the 2013 season. However when they have played they have been sublime, and added enormous firepower to their team's attack, as well as being valuable try-saving defenders.
So I have revised my list of the top 13 players in the world.
[iGreg Inglis
Cameron Smith
Johnathan Thurston
Billy Slater
Sonny Bill Williams
Cooper Cronk
Jamie Lyon
Sam Burgess
Andrew Fifita
James Graham
Daly Cherry-Evans
Matt Bowen
Brett Stewart[/i
Four of them are full backs. None of them are wingers. Moreover not one of the 13 is named Kevin Sinfield.
My next best players are goal kicking and play making halves Adam Reynolds and James Maloney. Would one prefer to have them in one's team ahead of Bowen or Stewart?
But of course Reynolds and Maloney are much better players than Kevin Sinfield.

| Forgot about Ablett. In the England squad to cover 2nd row and centre despite being crap at both.
Having seen Whiting play against us a couple of times recently I can't see how his name has come up on this thread. Excellent utility player who does all the simple things well. Hull would be poorer without him. His range of positions he can play in reminds me of Sam Panapa during our glory days (though obviously not that good).

| I think Ellis and Pryce are past it and overpaid rather than overrated there is a slight difference.
Yeaman has been a good clubman but it has cost him a successful career. There was a "disappointing players" thread and my answer was everyone at Hull FC. Horne, Yeaman, are the main offenders in the last 10 years which Briscoe is starting to look like the next victim. I can only guess it is the pressure of playing for a big club that doesn't deliver. I don't think Yeaman is overrated I just feel that he cannot live up to his potential while at Hull FC.

Well, 34 years non-stop I've been watching RL. I've obviously had my eyes shut for all that time.
You've just summed-up Whiting in one perfect soundbite. He's dependable and solid. That's it. I agree with you. If you listen to some Hull fans, and a couple of of Sky commentators, he makes Ellery Hanley look like pooh.
Please be aware, the thread says overated. I think he is. He's far from crap, but he's nowhere near the plaudits he gets

I've got to agree with this. Whiting is a pretty good club player, but he's currently got Eddie having multiples whenever he gets the ball.
Overrated doesn't mean bad.

| I agree with the comments about Whiting in this section. He is a very solid player hardly makes a mistake but if he was as good as the FC/sky people say he is wouldn't he have a set place in the team (apart from starting on the bench) Great players generally have one position. Whiting will play were others are injured and fits in.

| If whiting had pace he would be one of the finest players in this country. Rarely makes a mistake, scores try's, can play multiple positions, great defence. Been arguably Hull's best aquisition in the past decade because of the consistency he brings to the team.
Cant understand the Mcilorum knockers to be honest. Good hard player, could do without the dirty stuff though.

Well if he does go to you and you get the chance to see him week in week out then you will see why.
I've had the pleasure of watching him since he was 16 years old. He does plenty of highlight reel stuff but his real strength is his ability to carry the ball from the back. Unbelievably strong in collision for his size.

Believe me, he's far from that when he plays for you.
Top class player and fantastic to watch. He plays the game on the edge and its a pleasure to watch him getting stuck in to opposition forwards.
People talk about him in the same breath as Ryan Bailey but this lad isn't just a wind up merchant like Bailey who picks fights and runs away. He plays tough but fair (mostly) and he's more then willing to back up any talk.
He's a bit of a throw back in style and a game that seems to be getting a lot of its physicality taken away from it via the rule makers needs a player like McIlorum.

your right most utility players can't hold down a place because they are just solid and nothing else but Whiting is an intelligent footballer and stands out in every position, never gives a bad pass , dominates collisions offloads makes breaks scores tries and does it week in week out the complete player. I would have him in a Cas shirt in a nanosecond.
