| The best partner for Edward Hemmings would be Anthony Rea (aka 'Tony Ray').

| RL claims to be an innovative sport! We brought in the video ref. Ref cameras, promotional adverts which have never been done before!
We had two fantastic commentators in Eddie and Stevo for years who have now unfortunately run their course. Carney sounds like he trips up on every other word, O'Connor sounds like a neanderthal even though he can come up with some great point. Cummings, why the hell is he there? Talks nonsense to back his ref mates up. McDermott is the one I thought would be poor but actually is the best.
So let's be innovative again. I have two options:
1. Let Jonny Vegas take over commentary! Especially if it's Saints or Wigan. It would be comedy gold!
2. Get that fella from Cas on. The one with the famous commentary "GERRIM OFF THE FIELD! I CAN'T SPEYK! SEND THE DIRTY GET OFF! IF YOU'VE GOT ANY BOTTLE REF HE'LL WALK!!" Always brings a belly full of laughter when I hear that!! ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

Was discussed around the Brisbane game but the safety aspect wasn't quite there.
Quote Sky Sports’ Rugby League coverage is pushing boundaries by using a playercam for the first time ... when Leigh take on Warrington.
It is a first for Rugby League and also a first for high intensity, body contact sport in the UK. Sky are experimenting with the technology and Warrington player Kurt Gidley will wear the camera inside his jersey during the game.'"
Well, this is exciting, what do we think?
The use of the playercam open up many possibilities, not just in the viewing experience, but also when it comes to using the footage possibly in marketing and advertising.
Video of the cam in action on the Sky Sports website here: www.skysports.com/rugby-league/n ... warrington
Anything else we would like to see in future Sky Sports broadcasts? I suppose it's too late to have new titles half way through the season..

| What was going on in the interview Barrie did on SSN last night?
He was either badly edited or just ranting.

| Pity O'Connor didn't watch 100s of hours of NRL match broadcasts and learn how to commentate before he was let loose as a cheap option on national subscription TV for which sports lovers pay heavily. Get him off match commentary now and, as Jean says, bring in Tony Rea. NOW. Not next season.

| Why didn't they show Gidley's POV when he got wiped out by Hansen and Stewart, or when he knocked on?

| Is rugby league the only sport where the lead commentator doesn't know, or pretends to not know, the rules?
We don't need Cummings

| Well that's it for me. I'll be watching with no sound in future until O'Connor is gone or have a radio commentary on. Talk about destroying a legacy Hemmings and Stevo built up over nearly 30 years. Suppose Hemmings just thinks well I've only a year to do I'll just grit my teeth and say nothing. Shame.

| That interview with Gidley while he was having the camera fitted was one of the most awkward, amateurish things I've ever seen; poor old Tez does not have the mental acuity to make something like that fly.

Just pray he doesn't find out that the camera's powered by a setasix batteries. It'll be my TV that's flying if he does.

| I don't mind Tez, he seems a good sort. John Wells talks like he's describing something of earth-shattering importance. Like when at the touch screen and a losing player came up, and he talked about how difficult it must be for him. He'd lost a game of rugby, not his mother!
Dave Woods is far better, and I like Brian Noble. I prefer having coaches on because they talk about the technical stuff.
Carney is good. I think he also fronts one of the Gaelic sports on Sky as the main anchor.
Phil Clarke should be removed. He is a director and shareholder of a company that represents many of the people who play. Is he going to give accurate analysis, I only have Sky for the rugby, and I'm not paying it so he can use it to inflate the value of his clients.
PS: player-cam is a waste of time and looked very cumbersome because of the padding. It must have been distracting for Gidley.

If I was a manager looking to sign a new player I would totally do my due diligence by watching rugby league on sky and listening to Phil Clarke

| Just checking back on the commentary Wigan v St Helens. Ffs it gets worse. Don't know who the Head of Sport at SKY is but s/he needs to get rid of Neville Smith if he won't sort this out.
What a continuous cacophony of babble detracting from what we're trying to watch. There's no chance of enthusing any new viewers who are not fully committed rugby league lovers anyway. There is not a second's respite from artificially hyped up thicko ("setasix" O'Connor) wittering. Not a second. Double babble if Mr Smith thinks it's a good idea to have the referee's mic at virtually the same volume as the commentators. Who does he think we should be trying to listen to when there's two sets of sound on all the time?
What did Dan Maskill say? Less is more. Would be a start to have silence say 25% of the time at least. Then O'Connor could be dropped. Knowledgable RL fans don't need to hear his uneducated coaching 5 year olds style and the wider population will certainly be put off watching.
It's very easy Mr Smith. Just watch channel 9 NRL. The calm, authoritative insights of a Gus Gould are what is required. And a commentator who commentates on the match taking place. And some bits of silence, please.
Uneducated ex prop forward players do not usually make journalists warranting a national media stage. That Sky continues to broadcast such disrespectful babble over rugby league matches is demeaning to the game, it's players and supporters.
