| I agree that Toronto only needs two or three quality players to succeed in Super League. At least one of the new players must be a top quality half back and at least one a top quality prop to replace Ashton Sims, who is retiring.
If I was the coach of Toronto I would be looking closely at Ryley Jacks, formerly at Melbourne Storm, and currently at the Gold Coast Titans, where he is dealing with a lot of competition for the scrum half position. A good thing about Ryley Jacks is that he qualifies to play for Canada, because his father was born there. (Ryley's brother played for Toronto in its first year).
The club might even consider Josh Dugan to play at full back, since he is likely to be released by Cronulla, which is under salary cap pressure.
However the choice of a quality scrum half and at least one quality prop will be most crucial for Toronto's success in 2020.

| I'm fairly relaxed about the concept of TW being in SL - but then I don't have to organise for an entire squad of players and backroom staff to travel there for a match.
What I'm less relaxed about is the long term plan in North America; I sincerely hope there is one, and that the governing body are supporting it and not just leaving it all to TW. If this project doesn't include the accelerated development of junior and amateur arrangements in Canada, and a requirement to develop local players, then it all seems rather pointless - and creates the impression that it's just a team of mercenaries and has-beens, cashing in until the money runs out. I hope it succeeds, but having been involved in the organised chaos of junior RL in the UK, I have my doubts.

| Congratulations to Toronto, I'm a Featherstone fan and I'm nothing short of gutted that we fell at the final hurdle, however I'm not going to sling mud at Toronto. I fully agree that they are needed to grow the game, expand the market to North America and start a journey towards the game having more global appeal that it deserves. It seems that they are truly behind becoming a force of the game. I hope the self serving Super League chairmen don't become blockers to what they are trying to do. If the game is to grow to a global market, it's not just going to be the Featherstones, Batleys, Dewsburys that can't / won't compete at the highest echelons, it will also be a number of the current "elite" The biggest thing holding Super League back is Super League itself.

| OK. Don't want to upset people but as rugby supporters we look on SL with a different view to the Canadians. Wigan, St.Helens, Castleford means nothing to them.

| Can't wait for the fixtures to come out, hopefully we can find a way to make it work for a trip over there like me and my mates did with Catalans in the early days. New city, new place and new atmosphere to sample - bring it on I say. Don't think I speak for many of my fellow Trinity fans though......

Ridiculous allegation. You just cannot stop denigrating the best thing to happen to northern hemisphere rugby league, and global expansion of the game, in decades.

They were only allowed to spend the same as other teams in the same division as I understand it

I am aware of that (thought he was on more actually), however my understanding was that Toronto had the same salary cap spend (plus slight variations due to exchange rates) as other SL and Champ clubs

Champ teams are allowed the same salary cap as SL teams are they not, providing they can meet the revenue criteria - pretty sure we at Leigh were towards the full cap last season, believe it or not

| To say the likes of Wigan, St Helens and Castleford mean nothing to the Canadians can equally apply to St George, Parramatta and Wests Tigers.
How many people over hear knew where Oakland Raiders played when the NFL first started on Channel 4.
If people have an interest they'll find out regardless.

They're not bringing anything anything new to "the game". They are actually receiving something new to the city of Toronto. They have yet to provide the game with a financial benefit, homegrown canadian players, canadian coahces, canadian grassroots clubs e.t.c. What they have provided is huge salaries for other super league players to have a nice little holiday and earn some coin whilst playing uncompetitive games against teams with far less financial might.
Toronto bring nothing to the game in the UK or Super League that any other Super League club could not bring if they had some rich sugar daddy running them. This isn't "expansion". This is a Super League clubs becoming rich men's play things until they get bored. The Canadian Koukash one might say.

Canadian fans. As of now there are thousands of them. In the future there may be at least tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Canadian fans if the club gets a good television contract.
And who knows, maybe some young Canadian players will emerge as well, to be led in the Canadian national team by the young NRL experienced half back Ryley Jacks?

I didn't say that Lucas Gale had not signed for Leeds. I merely demanded your source for that information, which you could not provide, in lieu of which I speculated that you may have been fabricating the story.

Will all these thousands of Toronto fans be provided with a umbrella when attending matches at the Lamport Stadium?

They’re bringing 9,000 new fans and a wider media profile through more tv deals.
Which clubs currently provide the game with a financial benefit?
You expect Championship or SL standard Canadian players and coaches in the space of 3 years? Which Championship clubs consistently provide these players? Featherstone for instance had what, 4?, homegrown players in their 17 vs Toronto. And Fev are better than most Championship clubs at producing players.
So if this could happen at any UK super league club, why hasn’t it? Maybe these rich sugar daddies don’t see much potential in most of the UK clubs but do in a new side based in a big city with all the potential that has to offer?
