The video ref fell for the oldest trick in the book with the Inglis "try"

Just as he was going to press the NO TRY button, Hayne shouted "Watch out, BEHIND YOU!!!"

Then when he was distracted, Hayne quickly pressed the TRY button.

Bl00dy cheating Aussies

btw It was never a try in the memory of man, disgraceful decision.

Quote: declaration "Deserves its own thread I think.

Slater clearly intentionally knocked the ball forward for himself.

Now we all know that a knock on does not need to touch the opposition or the ground, so surely an intentional knock on like this should not have been allowed?

It's akin to a player throwing the ball fowards over the defender's heads only to then run onto it and receive it.

Changed the game too it did.'"

No it doesn't. It's a penalty if you deliberately propel the ball forwards even if it touches nothing and you catch it afterwards.

For example if you are given a pass and can't reach it so punch it or push it forwards and then catch it it's still classed as a knock on.

Watching it again didn't Slater knock it forward then it touched Sinfield nobody seemed to mention it?

Inglis was no try, pause it on Sky Plus and you see there was day light.

So, rather than try and catch the ball he decided to bat it forward over the dead ball line in the hope that he could then pull off a tip back in field for one of his colleagues who he couldn't even see to drop on?

Both tries, the Slater one definitely as no rule was broken, the Inglis one less obvious but there was no reason to disallow it.

Ok, so someone throws you a pass. It's a poor pass and you can't take it cleanly, but you can just about reach it. You stick an arm out and bat the ball up and forward with your outstretched hand, catching it cleanly a moment later as you run onto it.

Knock on?

Is it true that Richard Agar's favorite movie of all time is Groundhog Day or does he just generally like the same boring s**t day after day, season after season?:10603.jpg

Not if you knocked it on accidently (i.e. whilst trying to catch it).

If you did it on purpose however....

You HAVE knocked it forward deliberately - in order to catch it. It's like juggling the ball before you gather it - you're deliberately keeping the ball close so you can eventually gather it.

I've never seen a penalty given for someone not catching cleanly, juggling the ball so it leaves his hand and moves forward before gathering it.

A deliberate knock-on is different to accidentally knocking on when trying to catch the ball. If a player deliberately knocked on instead of trying to catch the ball he would be penalised. I've too have never seen a penalty for this but then I've never seen a player deliberately knock-on.

Only if the ball has been accidentally knocked on can play continue if the player regains or kicks the ball. Or, apparently, if the player slaps the ball backwards in a new interpretation of the rules (one I've never seen before and that I suspect we wont see next season).
