It was definitely a try to Inglis.

Despite NSW protestations, Farah made a deliberate play at the ball with his foot whilst Inglis had hold of it and dislodged it from his grasp.

If anything, the video ref could have awarded a penalty try under the sticks as a result of Farah's illegal and highly dangerous play.

What do you mean? That is Harrigan saying it was correctly awarded as a try.

Apologies, misread. Ricky Stuart claimed that Harrigan said it shouldn't have been awarded, I've no doubt that according to the laws of the game it was a try. icon_smile.gif

It isn't just video refs over here that get it so wrong then, that should never have been a try as long as the video refs got a hole in his backside.
Thought the game was a bit disappointing on the whole to be honest.

Surely even if Farah kicks it out Inglis's hands (im not sure he tried to dislodge the ball, just hold it up with his foot anyway), Inglis knocks on.

I enjoyed the game, even if it wasn't the best ever Origin, Carney looked nervous, but hopefully he'll relax a bit more in the second game and play as he can do.

The introduction by Ray Warren was spine tingling. Then they handed over to our lot. The atmosphere dropped in a flash

It was like day and night.

I think he was talking about Todd Carney icon_lol.gif I agree though icon_wink.gif

Just heard an interview with Harrigan who said that the try was awarded as Farrah made a play at the ball and kicked it from Inglis' hands. The knock onto his forearm was unintentional and so play on.

Now whilst I agree with that, I've seen it a million and one times and I don't believe that Farrah makes a deliberate play at it.

I think he'll be lucky to get another game after that showing, seemed to lurch from one cock-up to another.

I don't believe Farah made a play at the ball, I believe he tried to get his boot under the ball to stop it being touched down and that's exactly what happened.

When at that moment Inglis tried to ground the ball, it hit Farah's boot and did indeed hit Inglis' forearm and he did not play at the ball, so that part is correct, it would only be a knock on if had played at it, but you'll never see someone knock a ball on with their arm and it not be given as a knock on again. They've even abandoned applying the "played at" rule in the tackle, after a short experiment where some highly dubious dislodges were let go.

So technically a correct ruling, within the rules it's a try, but it shouldn't be.
