True Leeds' style won't be suitable for a rainy night.....but its not like we've forgotten how to play wet weather rugby. When we played Hull in the cup QF it rained and we played a very smart wet weather game and won comfortably and smartly, led by Sinfield who still knows what we'll need to do in what conditions to win.

| I think it's difficult to get the blend of players right to make this a successful style, and probably even harder to sustain.
For historical precedent, the Widnes side from about 1988 to the World Club Challenge in 1989 is a good example. The ace in the pack if you'll pardon the pun was Derek Pyke at prop. He'd be introduced after about half an hour during which Joe Grima had played as a battering ram. Pyke was one of the best offloaders around at the time and defences just couldn't contain their style of play.
After Pyke left, they brought in Les Holliday as a replacament, but the good times had gone by then.

Translation from troll to English: I acted like a nob to get a rise out of someone because it's the only way I can feel big.

| Leeds are exploiting the micturate poor tackling technique that came into the game some years back to stop the offload/slow the PTB down, as seen every single weekend forwards/backs are always able to offload more often than not even with 3 players around them.
Tackle correctly, bring the player to the ground instead of fannying around grabbing the chest/shoulders etc which is so limited in its effectiveness anyway as all players not just forwards can still make more yards or just break free in a 'tackle bust' and still offload which leeds do with aplomb.
It's this aspect of the sport that has dragged the game backwards, requiring bigger and stronger forwards to counter the upper & lower body strength that enables players to just push would be tacklers off/get an arm free.
If you as a coach were playing the % game then using the classic tackle technique actually lowers the amount of offload/yards gained - watch when it is done (there are some very good exponents within our game) and note how few offloads there by comparison to the grab tackle and the limited yards made.
it also commits less players to the tackle so the offshoot of that is less chance of overlap, fewer players out of the defensive line at the PTB and fewer offloads, especially ones that are 'unexpected' from say a 3 or even 4 man tackle.
What Leeds are doing isn't rocket science, it's recognising in a very logical way how to beat the opposition, drumming into the players their role the tactics and probably they have a sports psychologist too so that they have a belief in the system and what their role as individuals are. They are coached/trained in a way that come match day it's like second nature.
It's just being very professional from top to bottom in a way that exploits the opposing coaches weaknesses in thought/understanding. It helps having very good players on board too, it's breath of fresh air and is very much like the great teams of the past playing with a combination of power & guile.
Teams have played like this to a degree in recent times and they find it more enjoyable to play and this has a knock on positive effect in all aspects of your performance.

| If, as a defence, you just tackle round the legs then you might eliminate some offloads but you'll concede a huge amount of ground. Because the play the ball will be that quick you won't be able to move up in defence.

| The only way we can go back to the way that rugby league was meant to be played is by going to 11-a-side. We were always meant to have more offloading, more tries, more space than rugby union as you know. Well players have got fitter and faster yet the playing field has remained the same size.
What I propose is to get rid of 2 forwards and change the name of the hooker to quarterback, and call him a back too. And give him the No.8 jersey. I love seeing Les Boyd in the No.9 NSW jersey, so would love to see an aggressive forward wearing No.9 again.
So my England team would be :- Fullback--Z Hardaker//Wings--T Briscoe, Ryan Hall//Centres--K Watkins, D Sarginson//Halfbacks--G Widdop, S Tomkins//Quarterback--J Roby//Forwards--G Burgess, T Burgess, J Graham
Interchanges - D Clark, C Hill, A Walmsley, C Ablett

| 11-a-side we should see more teams playing as Leeds are at the moment, I would assume there would be more off-loads, and also in the NRL the defensive line often gets taken back 12 metres, well with 11 -a-side going back 10m with the back foot 10m from the play-the-ball, that would be sufficient, and this is what we have now most of the time in Europe.

You were very good in the first 15 mins when you raced into a 18-0 lead and again in the last 10 mins.
Those 55 minutes inbetween when you were out scored 24-6 weren't exactly "easy" for you.

| So we played better in the part of the games that counted and ended up winning by 2 scores. Didnt look like losing throughout the game.

Apart from the near 3 quarters of the game when you were out scored 24-6.
Cas were deserved winners, but it wasn't easy and I doubt at 24-24 with 10 to go many Cas fans thought "we don't look like we'll lose"
