1. They didn't go bust their benefactor who was and still is a billionaire as his Brazilian Potash mines never stopped working, decided to just pack it in on a whim caused by Melbourn Storm looking like they may let him take a stake.
2. They didn't market or promote the game at all. They promoted a big beer festival on every matchday and gave away free tickets and left gates open, then made up the attendances.

on resumption of the game after the first world war these clubs were prominent . Leeds, Hull, Oldham, Rochdale, Warrington. Wigan, Bradford, Wakefield, HKR, Huddersfield, Widnes, York, Dewsbury, Batley, Halifax keighley, Salford, Leigh, St.Helens, Swinton, Batley etc etc ,
