The fact that we used to be independent states is neither here nor there, likewise that certain sporting bodies continue to recognise us as such. We aren't.

But we are a union of nations, in many ways like the EU or the Eurozone.
And the fact major sporting bodies have historically recognised and continue to recognise the separate nations, including, importantly, the RLIF, is very much here and there and provides the validity that is missing with NSW & Qld.
You might disagree that the separate nations should be separate but that doesn't mean the separate nations lack validity.

Most nation states are made up of several constituent nations, but it is the nation state itself which should determine the national side. The history of a nation state really is irrelevant, otherwise you could argue for Spain to field umpteen national sides, or for the Czech Republic and Slovakia to combine forces in sporting events. I'm sure you wouldn't see those arguments as holding any validity, so why should GB compete in a form based on its history?

| Have a home nations and France running midweek games through the season every year, use those games UK BASED TEAMS for GB selection. This could go some way to stopping Welsh/Irish/Scottish players choosing England.

| Quote: UllFC "they need England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland to 'bulk' the world cup up.
i'd be happy with a set up where we continue with England for World Cups and 4 Nations, but come together as GB for proper tours with games against club sides, Queensland/NSW etc as part of the tours.'"

That's exactly my line of thinking. Ideally you would have 4 of the best players in their respective positions playing for the home nations going head to head in a GB trial. In that sense it would be beneficial when players like Brough, or anyone else who thinks they aren't guaranteed an England spot, to opt for a home nation which they qualify for, because that will be their best chance to prove themselves and earn their GB cap.

Agreed, it worked in the past. And even during the 4 Nations years, the players that don't make the GB team could compete in a Home Nations tournament.

Ive been banging on about this for a while. Atleast it would give more players a chance to represent at international level. The aussies aren't interested in growing the international game because all they are bothered about is SOO. England would be the strongest at first but I bet it would even out over a decade or so. Plant the seed and let it grow.

| Get the feeling that the GB tour announcement is after "the horse has bolted". Possibly by 2015 we could already have most of our international team over there.
1. Tomkins
2. Briscoe
3. Reed
4. Watkins
5. Hall
6. Widdop
7. Chase
8. Burgess
9. Roby
10. Graham
11. Hock
12. Mossop
13. Burgess
Hopefully it will benefit the fringe and younger players.
