| Quote Londo06="Londo06"Agar may well be right about Child's performance but he was less than forthcoming about the referee the previous week when his side were the beneficiary of forward passes in two of his sides tries in a 40-30 win in the capital.'"
I know coaches can be "selective" but there's a world of difference between a forward pass and inconsistent penalising. Radford got binned early on for a tackle round the neck, yet Ferres did the same in the same half and though Hull got the penalty, no sinbin followed. It's either a sin bin or it isn't, but it can't be both.
He made other mistakes and the mood of the match got worse and worse as players (who should take some responsibility) got more and more niggly with each other as they were allowed, by and large, to get away with it (hence the Aspinwall/Long set-to and Long's stupid challenge - the latter possibly from concussion after a blatant high shot that the ref "missed"). If Child had got on top of the game earlier and been less pedantic and more consistent, then this thread and Agar's rant would not have happened

So you are claiming possibly Long ran in with his elbow as a result of being concussed owing to a high shot that the referee missed?
Are you a solicitor?

| I suspect he wasn't thinking straight and was seeking a bit of revenge. He was laid out for a good minute after the high shot that "didn't happen", so although I'm not a doctor (or a solicitor or a WUM ) he may not have had all the marbles in a row
You did underline where I said it was a stupid challenge and I'm not trying to defend it. If Child had penalised the high shot chances are Long would have stayed on the field and you wouldn't need to be on your high horse

I'm not on my high horse at all.
It's just I haven't heard someone using possible concussion as a defence for assault for quite a few years.

If that incident had happened on the street outside the ground he would have been.

Well seeing as I am not really a fan of Castleford, Hull, Sean Long or even whoever it was who copped his elbow (I only saw it briefly on telly whilst flicking round the channels) I think it's far to say I won't lose any sleep over it.
It still amused me when Hull lost though.
Again.

| Irrespective of the merits/accuracy of his comments there was no way the RFL couldn't be seen to react by charging Agar. Letting it go would have created a precedent and made it open season for coaches to slag match officials, which isn't a road I'd want to see the game going down.
How long after the final hooter are coaches press conferences these days? I know journos want to get home, particularly from Friday night games, but is there mileage in making them say at least an hour after the hooter to give coaches chance to calm down a little?

If a legal rugby league tackle happened on the street outside the ground it would be assault too. What's your point?

A legal rugby league tackle is technically an assault inside the ground too. However a defence to it is that it took place during a lawful sporting activity according to the rules.
So TECHNICALLY Sean Long running in leading with the elbow could be argued that it's NOT a 'legal' rugby league tackle and if whoever the other person was fancied making a name for himself he could try and get him arrested for assault.
Of course it won't happen.
Thats why I was interested in the comment that was posted by someone on the last page saying it MIGHT have happened because Sean Long might have been concussed from another illegal tackle earlier on. Long would probably use that as a defence if he did get arrested.
Ahhh the law.
Don't you just love it.
