Quote: marshman "Spot on. We're being told that ginerism is just banter, because it suits their argument, yet anything racist or homophobic is a no go. It's quite pathetic and is the same attitude people had years ago with black people and gays.'"
whats pathetic is to equate all that has happened in the name of racism and homophobia to people chanting about James Graham being ginger.

Quote: marshman "To simply dismiss the point becaus they don't think it is offencive is disgusting. If the RFLs respect policy is all about picking and choosing who they protect then it's absolute bull. But as brayton has mentioned, the RFLs respect policy goes right back to grass roots rugby and includes such things as bullying ginger people. The RFL has set the bar. No one at Cas (at least in the whole) are saying that homophobic chanting is ok. But you cannot pick and choose who you are going to fine when there is little respect on the terraces all through RL, wether it be racism, homobhobic or gingerisms.'"
Do you think Cas would come out looking any better if all chanting that mentioned anything whatsoever about a person was fined?

No, but the RFL set the precedent and now they must fine any club who are found guilty of abusive chanting then on top of that failing to stop it.

I'm not the one trying to compare which is worse. By your argument, only people who have been chopped into tiny pieces should be protected from abusive comments. Don't say a harsh word to a gay man, but feck the gingers it's only a laugh!

It's a respect policy, respect to all.

do you have the same defence for Andrew Johns? you must believe that was a huge over-reaction? Was Tahu wrong? if not do we just expect people to accept racism? or do we expect the victim of racism to be the one to lose out?

doesnt matter, you dont let Ian Brady got through because Jack the Ripper went free.

If you want to make the point that the RFL dont take chants of 'fat ginger b@st@rd' or 'dirty yorkshire b@st@ard' as serious as homophobic chanting or racist language then you are right, but then in real life, these are much bigger issues, which more extreme attitudes and more serious consequences

Quote: RDM "But as everyone knows, there's one rule for Leeds & another rule for everyone else.'"

im sure that will become apparent if the RFL fail to take any action against leeds rhinos for abusive chanting or rather the failure to control it.
made worse by the fact it was on national tv on a saturday evening and quite clearly audible to to the viewer and no doubt the radio listeners.

This is one of the big problems with the RFL , they dont think things through to their logical conclusions , be it fining a club for being unable to control what happens on the terracess at a game , to not thinking through problems with salary cap cheating [ Wigan ], to administration during a season [ Quins ] , Visa issues for players [ Crusaders ] , implications of P/T players and the salary cap outside SL

They really are just like the bank adverts on the telly

I will be expecting Barrow to get a similar fine to Cas and hopefully Leeds , as today I quite clearly heard Brett Mc Dermott being reffered to as a " Fat B*****d " , and being asked if he had indeed eaten ' All the pies " , quite unacceptable and Brett was obviously very upset by the chants , he even rubbed his stomach , he was that upset , sorry but Barrow , you quite clearly didn,t do enough to stop this happening , and I hope you are going to instigate a full and thorough , no expense spared investigtion to discover who these so called ' fans ' are

If anyone feels so strongly that abuse of people with ginger hair or who are overweight is comparable with racism and homophobia, they should start a campaign to move "the line"
That line dividing what is accepted and what is not is currently and racism, homophobia and sexism (which we don't have a major problem with) if you want it moved (either way....maybe they do feel racism, homophobia and sexism should be acceptable) start a campaign for what you believe is right.

If Widnes fans sing 'the wheels on your house go round and round' to us again in a few weeks time, will the RFL be fining them £40k?

Only if we don't sing "you robbed my stereo" in response.

With refrence to the RFLs respect policy, which they have quoted Cas of been quilty of preventing, and dealing with a breach of this policy (which Cas deny). The RFL are saying that homophobic, racist, ginger, fat, goth and the rest are equal, in their own policy. The RFL respect policy isn't about which race, sexuality or hair colour has been persecuted the most throughout history and which set of folks are hit the worst. The RFL respect policy is about respect to all, gay, black, ginger and the rest. It's the RFL who have set the bar, and then singled out Cas for a fine for breaching this policy. A policy which by their own standards, was breached at Headingley, many other grounds through this season and even many more today. I personally am not here to campaign for the banning of gingerisms, my point is that according to the RFL respect policy, gingerisms are as bad as homophobic comments and to single out one incident and punish it so harshly is wrong, by their own rules, their own policy.

FFS give it a rest! It's quite obvious you have an agenda with the Leeds club which to be quite honest is getting very tedious. You have been spouting your continuous drivel on every board available by the looks of it.

If you could be bothered to listen from your armchair the PA had more than one announcement stating that RL is a family sport and foul and abusive chanting/language will not be tolerated so therefore the club did not break any RL legislation.

I think Gaslight is more trying to show that this thing happens all over the RL terraces and that singling out Cas is very very harsh. Also, if what you say did happen with the PA announcements etc (i'm doubting doubting you), then this won't protect Leeds because this is exactly what the Cas club did at the time. That is why Cas have appealled against the fine, because they did everything and more of what they should have done, apart from as i said elsewhere, randomly throw a handgrenade in the direction of the chants hoping to get the culprits.
