Quote: Dico "Harder but not impossible. Do Leigh get these grants?
See Widnes and Hull Kr in recent seasons.
Get 3500 through the gates and you stand a chance

Exactly. Which is why when he was comparing Hull Krs dream I was suggesting that these days the Castleford approach is probably a better one'"

Yes they do , but they are nothing to do with the RFL [ not a criticism ]

Go on explain the Castleford approach ? , tell me how it is different to any other clubs ?

weve had RL in london for 70 years (on and off) before fulham

so fulham were a "heartlands" type club

catalans success was never guaranteed. the decision to try france again after PSG failed was a brave one

indeed if catalans didnt have immunity from relegation (another thing richard lewis should be praised for) they mightve died off after being releated

and in a nutshell there you have it

they hate expansion clubs because otherwise there would be a place in SL for their club

Can you really not read a bit above?
Hull kr have joel Clinton, Cas have Mitchell Sargeant.
Hull kr have Dobson, Cas have McGoldrick.
Cas play james evans, Kr pay Webster to sit on the bench.
Cas have plenty of juniors in the team, Kr don't

Are we noticing a pattern here?

Quote: littlerich "Sustainable paying crowds. That'll put a club in SL.
A Championship club pulling in 6,000+ REGULARLY would almost certainly elevate them "upstairs". I know i've stated the obvious but there you go.'"

id say 3000 myself. thats what hull kr got in the old NL1 and look what theyve got in SL

the higher the crowds go above 3000 the more likely a SL spot is

id go so far as to say that if any Championship club can get crowds of 4000 - 5000 they pretty much guarantee themselves a SL spot.

You mean Mcgoldrick the Australian

Rovers are only in their 4 th season of SL , their youngsters will start to come through in the next 2/3 years

Cas have not been out of SL for more than a season at any time since it started

Can you see a pattern

Quote: Starbug "And there you have the difference between Championship and SL RL , put wire in the championship with all their community work and it wouldn't pay off for them either , the Championship clubs have to work harder than their SL neighbours , they have to offer more and better deals than their SL neighbours to get fans in , All that costs money , and the worst thing is that the RFL do have that money , they do offer it to the Championship clubs , but not to spend on marketing to local ' walk through the gate ' fans

Instead they have to spend it on wages for F/T CEO's and marketing personel with a remit to get a Sugar daddy

Just for the record , most if not all of Warringtons Community is not financed by SKY money or even Warringtons income , it is financed via community Grants , so you are basically wrong , again'"

its the RFLs fault then that championship clubs dont have more money and those nasty SL clubs do

It was more the point they're paying cheap australians, shoestring but effective budget.
A very well run club as that's kind of what the point is here.
Im bored of the discussing now, time for nap, Dally can take over icon_wink.gif

Yes it got them relegated twice and a bottom finish in 3 SL seasons , very effective

They were cheated in 06, Wigan should have gone down.
Its a different management now from 04 and 06 isnt it?
aand they finished bottom in 08, wait for it, because they knew they were safe and blooded youngsters.
Shoestring budget, plenty of youngsters, watch them fly when they get this new stadium.

Night all

Quote: Dico "We've had our issues don't get me wrong.
But look at where the two clubs' next 30 years lie and...well...
Never been out of the top flight and sure as hell don't look like we're going anywhere soon.

As Richie from faxy said earlier, of course SL would survive. It would strip costs accordingly and Warrington, Wigan, Saints and Widnes would still all be bigger than Leigh. As my post above said, why on earth wouldn't you spend the money on getting people through the gates if it's there.'"
theres no doubt about it mate warrington are the most under achieving club in the long history of british rugby league

Quote: Dico "If they weren't in SL would they receive these grants? You seem to know more than me..I personally don't think the stadium would have got through the government objection if we weren't in the top flight.

Re your first sentence I never said you didn't. But that is exactly why we spend all that money.
You're on here claiming SL clubs are so reliant on the money but why wouldn't we spend whats given to us? The SL clubs would not go bust if Sky pulled the plug at the end of the TV deal

erm yes it is.
The TV money pays matt kings wages, matt king sells shirts and gets people interested through the gates and so on.
I mentioned community work earlier as one point, by getting people through the gates I meant everything that results in the end product of paying spectators coming to games'"
SL could not exist in its present form, indeed a number of clubs would go bust instantly if sky pulled the plug now.and were you get this idea that a player sells enough shirts to make a differance to a clubs income is bonkers, your not man u you know
