The random draw unfortunately produced some very one-sided, unexciting games.

I've already pointed out that Manchester City Council (Labour controlled by the way) backed England RU coming to Old Trafford and also tied it in with schools. They have RU development officers in the city. They brought other events like the City Games on board and the Great Manchester Run.

RL really needs to get a solid presence in the city. It is smack in the middle of our heartlands, but like Stockport and Bolton and Tameside there is neglgible RL played there. Even towns like Rochdale and Oldham and Swinton are struggling to keep the game alive. What better way to ensure the game stays strong other than protect and expand in it's core area?

He clearly had no idea the council owns the COM and only lease it to City. Clearly didn't think of all the events staged at the stadium regards the pitch. Cannot say what damage RL does to a pitch. Basically a plank who tries to shout down and bully anyone into submission. A total gobe mouthing of because he has an inflated idea of his ill thought out and baseless opinions.

The stadium, which is a super venue, is dead easy to get to from both Victoria and Piccadilly stations and is well served by public transport.

Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester....then where next?? One thing is for sure the crowds over the two days this year show that the concept in it's current location is not that popular. 26,000 on the Saturday and 25,000 on the Sunday show that numbers travelling are shrinking significantly.

Bring it home, build the event up again, build North West region up and maybe then look at going elsewhere in future.

End of May Bank holiday, no competing events, stadium is free, derby games, a festival of rugby league that fans can afford, get it done!!

We have loads of injuries, the Rhinos had injuries and had the whole rugby league world bleating on about it. We have a load of injuries and score over 50 points against Hull KR, and nil them.

when we got hammerd by Hull in the first game of the season, we had Hull fans come on to our forum and tell us how we were unlucky and not be harsh on our team because we're in transition and we're not the team we used to be.

Neautral fans go on about how good the Wigan and Leeds young lads are, yet never a mention of the juniors that St Helens produce. We had our 2nd and 3rd centre - Wing partnership out today (Wheeler, Lomax, Gidley, Meli) yet the likes of Tom Armstrong (who lookes a 100 times better than Stefan Marsh from Wigan who the Sky Commentators bigged up) stepped up to the plate. All i've heard all seasonis how St Helens RL is doomed etc.... Well guess what.... FU**CK you!!!

We will still fight with everything we have. We had 2 overseas players in our team today yet wet tonked a decent Hull KR tea, I'm proud as punch and i'm love our lads.

What has the colour of the council got to do with it



Both stadiums have had plenty of opportunity to host RL games, major RL games too, Old Trafford has only held the GF for years and CoM has held a single game, hardly putting out the welcome mat.

You need to think about the damage it could do, we've been lucky with the weather the last two years, a weekend of solid rain would make a mess of any pitch, you think that clubs who have maintained their pitches properly, let them settle in and carefully managed their use would like a risk that that? Seriously?

Yup, I've been when it hosted the games, as a footy stadium and for the single RL game there, they are hardly opening the doors to RL though.



The crowd of 52k+ was down by what on last year? 6k? Not a bad turnout considering a number of factors going against it and nowhere near what some doom mongers were hoping for.

Imo I don't think many teams could have lived with your team tonight,barring Wigan and Wire.

How many people attended over the two days would be a more interesting figure than the RFL and Sky adding the two day's figures together.

Dunno how you could separate that out TBH.

It is a pretty standard way of accounting, the same happens with season ticket holders at regular games.

Will everyone stop banging on about using the COM stadium you can only hold x amount of non football events at this ground. These are concerts as they bring in far more cash.

Edinburgh hasn't been the success Cardiff was......time to move it to another city...How about Paris? or London? or even back to welsh wales even.....

Wembley for the Magic weekend but use Spring Bank instead, makes it more viable for full family weekends for those who don't watch the games to visit the London sites.

The agreement the RFL has with Wembley is 1 major event per year minimum so it's not as if the dwindling interest in the CC would be a problem.

Please don't ban me for this, but I actually watched that 2005 NR Cup Final when I got in last night to cheer myself up!

How many opportunities have both stadiums had? Have they declined them. If so, can you tell me when the RFL enquired and when MUFC/MCC said no?

Like the game played in hundreds more schools perhaps, like more amateur clubs in all the AGMA areas where none or very RL little is played. You might not have noticed but the sport is really struggling at amateur level on our doorstep.

A weekend of solid rain on the second May Bank Holiday, doom monger!! Three months until the PL starts from the end of May. That not long enough to repair any damage games do? How much damage does an RL game do by the way? More than a couple of nights of concerts when it's covered for five days with hundreds of tons of equipment and around 100,000 people on it for several hours at a time?

52,000 tickets bought, but how many double counted? What's the breakdown of two dayers, day trippers and Scots then? What were the doom mongers hoping for?

Home, well if you need to ask that you clearly are a troll. Wasn't the Northern Union based in Oldham between 1895 -1920 when it moved to Chapeltown Road in Leeds? COM is 6 miles from Oldham. The NRL does the heritage stuff, what an excellent concept to tie in with the Magic Weekend when it comes home. Give Cats/Quins a weekend off and Maybe put on a local e.g Swinton/Oldham/Rochdale vs whoever championship/championship 1 match on instead? Would sell more tickets than Cats/Quins. 'Magic Is Coming Home' there's your ad campaign strapline right away



Why are the football play offs that are being held 200 miles away competition for the Magic Weekend? In the AGMA region Manchester (Utd and City) Bolton, Wigan, Salford, Tameside, Trafford won't be involved and it's highly unlikely that Rochdale Oldham or Bury will either. Will any town that has an SL club who may get to their respective divisional play off really draw away SL club fans? I very much doubt it.

I can't see any reason why the event would not get a full house on both days. Next season Saints are playing at the Stobart, so the Wigan game will top out at 12k. Would get 20,000 by itself at COM.

Done Wales, done Scotland, now it's time to pay the heartlands some attention and give the fans a break from the expense. Refresh the event by bringing it home, then maybe in a couple of years take it back on the road or change the format.
