| Quote ="TheButcher"Holbrook himself alluded to this in his acceptance speech, saying that the votes were cast a while ago and that he thought the votes would be much different now.
I think if the vote was later then it's Watson that wins it. At the time it did take place, Holbrook was clearly the right choice.
End of discussion really.'"
Especially if the voting was just before the CC final.....

Holbrook has already won coach of the year, voted by his peers.
That really means it is the end of the discussion.
What will the game on Saturday contribute to the discussion of coach of the year, now already awarded?

| Heard rumours on-line there was Salford fans chanting the name of their own coach as Holbrook received his award.
Highly embarrassing for them if true.

One thing that could perhaps be improved is that the voting was taking at the end of August. Salford's season was probably not quite so epic yet, they were probably about 5th at the time.'"

When it's all about results and with the Title being decided by a GF, it would make more sense to hand out the awards after the play offs and GF. ![IDEA a046.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//a046.gif)

| Saints were as short as 7/2 to make the grand final . Salford 150/1 to add some context. Yes saints have won the league at a canter, they have a tremendous roster and have been blessed with few injuries. But Salford weren't anyone's fancies to make old Trafford. They've done so emphatically as well. Destroyed Cas at home then mullered Wigan.
I respect that about the decisions made in August but again it shows it's too early. Many wire fans want price sacked and he was nominated !

| Coach of the year isn't dependant on winning the GF, if it was then you would just have to give it to the GF winner every year. There is an argument for holding the vote a bit later, if London had managed to avoid relegation then it would be without a doubt DW but he didn't and he's not

I'm not sure about that, the basement battle was meant to be between Salford and London, London ended where they were supposed to Salford did not. Holbrook got the award but as he said maybe if the vote was later he may not have received it.

| It doesn't really make sense to do the voting in August, and doesn't need to be done earlier for any practical reasons. They could literally give each of the 12 coaches a call on the morning of the awards and ask who they are voting for.

There's a lot more involved that simply handing a trophy over. There's the engraving of the trophy and the putting together of the winner's video. However, I do agree that August is a ridiculous time to do the voting and the middle to end of September was more logical.

That chanting was funny at first, however as the night wore on it because more and more embarrassing, especially the booing and jeering of Justin Holbrook when he won the coach award. You could hear fans telling the culprits to shut up from where we were.

I thought it was pretty poor to be honest, detracted from what otherwise seemed a classy event put on by SL.
