They're all good with the ball but they're not all good defensively.

Got to be Hall and Briscoe or Hall and McGillvary for me wouldn't object to Burgess neither.

Naturally I'd prefer Tommy Makinson because he's a Saint. But I wouldn't have any complaints if some of the other names were selected ahead of him. He isn't the most dangerous winger in the league. But speaking as someone whose nerves have been shredded once too often I think there's something to be said for a player you'd trust to make the right decision with your life.

I should also say that a lot depends on specialization and the tactics (especially kicking) employed by the coach.

"The Golden Generation finally has its Golden Fleece! They have Wembley Cup Final winners medals to add to their collection." 23/08/2014:

I agree a lot depends on the tactics, going against the Southern Hemisphere you're talking about a physical game. Do you want to go for the back 3 who will act like forwards giving relieving sets whilst your forwards get a breather? If so then Hall and Briscoe and McGillivery look more likely.

Let's be honest all options can score tries if given the chances so it's up to what they do other than that. Funnily enough we've got to the point and style in the game now when you actually have to look past how many tries a winger has scored, that's not the be all and end all of their position now and often just tells a picture of how well this club have been at getting him in, not that he's a better finisher than other candidates.

My vote goes for Hall and Briscoe, know how to work well with each other being together at leeds, Briscoe is strong, good in the air from the kick and very aware of his surroundings, very rarely see him being caught out by the sideline. Hall has better vision than most other wingers around in my opinion, always finds the hole in the line, good footwork to compliment it.

Hall plus any of the options mentioned works for me. I think Briscoe probably pips the others, if Mackinson had played the full season I suspect he might have moved ahead of Briscoe in my pecking order based on the way he's been going last couple of seasons.

A lot of it depends on who will be fullback. Hardaker should probably get the nod but If Samwise Tomkins is fullback then Hardaker would be my choice on the other wing.

My centres would be Watkins plus Reed for this series, but I see Watkins and Percival as a long term centre partnership for England.

Hudds. Fans talking up Mcgillvary obviously, and he has proved to be a good club winger scoring plenty of tries but I'm not so sure i can see him making the step up so easily against the big 2.Charnley is a case in point, prolific for Wigan but looks average at best when put up against the big boys.Guess we may see in a couple of months, Mac may pick him as i agree his form is very good.'"

So what you are saying is that no matter how well a player is playing he shouldn't be picked above another player who's playing an average game every week as he's unproven at international level---- if the coach takes that view we are going to run out of players pretty quick. - or perhaps you mean only if they don't play for Leeds, Wigan or saints......

Fwiw I don't think mcgilvary should play for England as his defence is a weakness- but on this seasons form he's better than most, and certainly no worse than the rest.

Briscoe and McGilvary, if we can't give the latter a go then it's a poor do. Those saying Hall hasn't had much in the way of scoring tries and that's somehow the yardstick...sheesh.
Sorry but Charnley is down the pecking order for me, he was bang average in the World Cup and lucky to retain his place, he doesn't offer as much as McGilvary IMHO

Has anyone even suggested Charnley? Burgess and Manfredi now are infront of him at Wigan.

Hall is my number 1 wing pick because of his all round game. I think he offers a bit more than any of the other names that have been mentioned. He my have scored less than some of the others but I wouldn't make a decision like this based on tries scored alone.

Going by his decision making in Catalan those arguing hall has big game experience perhaps need a rethink. Hall has done nothing this season to suggest he is better at anything than the others. He doesn't have the pace he had, others can finish just as well so what exactly is it people think he has ABOVE the others. Can't just pick him because he has experience if that's the only thing he offers!!!!

Hall has been excellent this season for Leeds. Just because you want a Huddersfield player in don't make stuff up about Hall.

......says the one making stuff up about who I want in- please read previous posts before posting drivel. Hall has been poor compared to previous years. Briscoe hS been better. You Still haven't said what hall offers ABOVE the others apart from he's been there before.....

Quote: South Coast RL "I like the ON CURRENT FORM is nice and bold in the hope that a player from the OP's club will be picked.

Form is only a factor in international selection. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Experience counts for a lot as do other factors such as influence in the dressing room and performances in past internationals.

For me Ryan Hall has to be picked, he may not (by his own very high standards) of had his best season but past international performance guarantees selection.

That leaves the other side. I'd pick Burgess. I think he is class and will kick on to be one of the worlds best. He has a proper rugby brain and has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. I understand the arguments to go for an all Leeds back 3 with the understanding they have. Briscoe would be in my squad.

McGillvary is on top form but IMO not quite in the class of Hall, Burgess and Briscoe.'"

Of course it has to be on form, if a player is not performing well how long do you keep him in the international team because of 'past international performance's ? 1 year, 2 years, 3, years ??

Obviously i'm going to champion Jerry as he's a massive favourite of mine and is also the form winger is the game, and has been playing very well for a good 3/4 years now, how good does a player have to play to get a call-up ?

I also think Briscoe and Burgess are superb players too thats why i wanted to see what other people's thoughts were !

I'm not suggesting Hall should be dropped btw, i rate him highly and obviously he will be picked regardless but it's interesting to note that McGillvary's stats smash his !!
The extent of his coaching is ''BASH EM, JUST F*CKING BASH EM. HE'S LOW ON CONFIDENCE, BASH HIM'' He's a limited coach that won't last long term.[/quote:8f22o6ue] ....
That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.[/quote:8f22o6ue]:

A game in which Leeds could potentially have secured 1st place isn't a big game anymore?

I also find it funny that the people who say Hall has to be in the team because of past performances think that this only applies to the wing positions and not the FB position. FB must be picked on form but wing on past performance.
