We have far too many teams in the small northern towns, we need to make super league more european to bring in the big money and compete with onion on the international stage. The expansion id go for would be something like this: (with the weakest northern club dropping down to the championship every 3 years to make way for them)

Off the top of my head - gene miles, dale shearer, kerry boustead, greg dowling, martin bella - all stars of the game from North Queensland who played before the cowboys. Probably hundreds more. There's been RL in townsville since 1914, north queensland played the lions on pretty much every tour in the old days, beating GB once or twice. It's more of an RL heartland than _anywhere_ in England, that's for sure. | | | |

Or... we could take advantage of the open pathways offered to our sport since the fantastic events of 1995 and build from the bottom up. As another poster has said with a RL team based in every town, city, school, college and Universtity in the UK
If, as we all believe, we have the greatest game of all then we will see it grow now that the atificial restrictions have been removed
Professional teams should be built on demand for the sport not by parachuting teams into areas with no desire for the game

No, the idea of just throwing teams from places from non RL backgrounds and expecting it to work is taken from 1996.
A successful Super League team (10k crowds, financially sustainable) in somewhere like Edinburgh would probably take 50 years work. You can't just put something somewhere and expect it to work - that was the 1996 attitude and it's proven time after time not to work.

I think Toulouse is the exception, as it has the base and the interest to support a SL club there.

It's certainly a better bet than Edinburgh or Dublin, but they're hardly bursting at the seems crowd figures-wise at the moment are they? It'd be nice for them to prove they can get more people through the gates over the next three years before throwing them into SL imo | | |

Why does expansion have to be at the cost of a club in the heartlands of RL, these clubs are still on the go after a hundred years and will more than likley be here in another 100 when the experiments with your suggestions will be a distant faded memory.
I have no objection to new teams from other areas coming into RL, but it should NEVER be at the expense of an established club, after all the criteria you set (the weakest, which might still be perfectly viable as a club) will mean eventually we will be looking at getting rid of strong, viable heartland clubs just for the sake of making room for a newer club.
Let these new clubs start off in the bottom division and build up, if this is not acceptable to them then do we really want them in the first place. | | |

We should create a Super League of a Balanced Number of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Expansion Clubs, then expand the league.
