Legal wise I cant remember who it was but at the Paris v Saints game at knowsley road Vila absolutely anihilated some poor french guy. The stadium rocked with the force of the hit, the ball flew up about 10 meters vertically in the air and the whole stadium let out a collective "oooohhhhh" and then just silence because everyone though the french guy was seriously injured!

It is a noise that cannot be described, the crowd is impressed, whilst also feeling the pain, wincing, gasping, applauding, going 'oooh' and then the silence while you see what state the poor bloke who feels like a trucks hit him is in.

I really don't know why anyone is praising the McDermott elbow on Sironen. It was disgusting, just about as bad as Clint Newton on Ashton Sims, and should have seen him banned for a very long time.

I don't see anyone praising it - it was indeed a disgraceful hit. Remember though, such things weren't that uncommon back in the day, though Barrie always managed to raise the bar a little.

Still, it was pretty dramatic and knocked seven bells out of Sironen and the little devil on my shoulder always smiles when an Aussie gets flattened in test matches, whatever the circumstances.
