And I can accept that refs make mistakes but to make them over and over and over again is going lose control of the game and/or spark a reaction from the crowd. You can’t say you’ve never lost your poop in the stands at a referee before, surely?
But the imagine someone throwing a wine bottle at you because you’ve protested against a referee decision. You’re not going to smile and wave at the bloke are you?'"
Of course I've got frustrated at refereeing decisions, but I can honestly say I've "never lost my poop" at a referee because I'm mature enough to accept that they will make mistakes and that they will, on occasion, referee a game in a way that I might not like. That's what I accept when I watch professional sport. Referees often make decisions based on interpretation and perspective, and they are often going to be different to mine.
What I also know is that James Child knows the rules of RL better than any supporter. You don't have to like him, you don't have to rate him, but he's eminently more qualified that you, I or anyone else on this forum to take charge of a Super League fixture.
I'm not commenting on "who threw what" because frankly, there's nothing but speculation and conjecture on here - the tweets you linked to on the other thread are simply the accounts of a few Wire fans and we have to treat they with scepticism, as we should treat any similar claims from Dragons fans. That's why there will be an investigation.
The long and the short of it is that anybody who tries to say James Child and his team is responsible for what happened tonight is, in my view, somebody who this sport is is far better off without.

First bit yes
Second bit pure speculation
Where is that chair that was thrown, you think all the videos would have picked that up

No, no it's not Child's fault you need to get some perspective.

| Any body remember the Challenge Cup game last season between Featherstone & Hull FC when the referee lost complete control & handed out quite a few cards? There was quite a few coming togethers I'm that game, even the odd punch. Funnily enough though there was no trouble in the stands. Bit odd how Hull & Featherstone fans can control themselves but Warrington fans don't seem capable & just want to shift blame elsewhere.

Child did not lose control of the game that was the players' themselves, how you expect the ref and his two mates to keep apart two sides determined to have a go is beyond me, you'd be far better blaming Hill and Edwards for that and the king of all grubs McCllorum as well.
Incidentally if you blame the referee for the bottles and glass thrown then I pity you and we might as well all pack in now.

| I do not know where half of the nonsense comes from about the catalan tactics and the referee.
Someone has mentioned the first set about knees and punches etc. I have literally just watched it back and specifically looked for these bad tackles. There is literally nothing wrong with anything in the first set of six. So much so that I cant even see any of the usual hand waving that all teams do when they think something is wrong.
The referee seems to be the scap goat for a load of blokes getting beered up in the sun and acting like idiots.

| Suppose we can blame the ref for Widnes fans storming the CC semi at Leigh, or Wakefield fans ripping out seats at London first game this year eh?

No it’s not. It’s bizarre to assume it is.
Can’t agree with Bramleyrhino more. That kind of attitude needs to be eliminated from the game.

| Child did not have a good game, he didn’t assert his authority enough but his performance isn’t to blame for the fans’ actions.

Some Warrington fans are blindly defending their club not unlike some FC fans did similar after the accusations of racist abuse recently. Don't think this is limited to 1 or 2 clubs it's all of us. Flares Bottles Scrapping etc and we chant "Your The Scum Of Rugby League" at each other and try to make out our team is immune to drunken aggressive nutters who unfortunately attach themselves to the vast majority of peaceful friendly fans. Yesterday looked very bad from what I saw of the Sky cameras and first impression looks very damning for the travelling Warry lads storming the boxes. I don't see how Child can be blamed for that? I do however think the players involved in the fracas as professionals should be punished and although most of us like a bit of biff that was just feral and it spread to the boozed up rabble in that bit of stand. Can't be defended imo. Best just condemn it and face up to the fact it could have been any set of fans and it's every teams problem

| That game was always likely to be incendiary with the likes of McIlorum and Hill on the pitch. Hill helped set the tone quite early on with the use of the elbow when lying on in a tackle so it’s a bit rich of him to complain. Patten and Philbin both have reckless tackling techniques, just like O’Loughlin at Wigan, and all are prone to make head high tackles. I actually think Child has improved a lot but that is from a very low base. However none of what went on yesterday was his fault and both clubs need to take a long hard look the attitude of their players.
