I was also at the game and whilst it was certainly not the whole stand it was loud enough to be heard quite clearly by my wife, son and I on the half way line and I can assure you it wasn't one person it was a group of voices in unison.

its sad that people are still, even in 2010, trying to equate homophobic and racial discrimination with general insults to lessen the seriousness of the crime.

Their Argument is, if racial discrimination and general insults are the same, calling someone a is no different to calling someone fatty. Its not a huge leap in logic to then say if society isnt offended by calling Ganson a fatty, why should anyone be offended by calling JJB a or Tony Puletua a coon, or Ikram Butt a Paki, or Gareth Thomas a faggot?

yet this ignores the long, horrific, and shameful history of racial and homophobic discrimination and attitudes that these words are remnants and examples of, and as such the greater power they carry.

I think it would be naive to think that these attitudes were always down to naivety, and they arent, on some level, in some cases down to latent racist or homophobic beliefs

Nobody has stated what Cas could have done ' on the night ' , and what if this occurence had happened at the KC stadium , the LSV , Stobart or the Keepmoat were the stewarding is not run by the club , would the RFL sue the relevant council's

Even all this rubbish about getting Cas to go into nthe schools running programs to ' educate ' people , I have no doubt that the kids who were chanting this stuff are most likely not homophobic , but quite simply trying to upset an opposition player by aiming comments to him , something that has been happening in most sports including RL for decades and will continue to happen for ever

Put it this way, the idiots who done it are stupid, you know the sort with nothing going for them, can't string sentences together etc, defamation is a word they'll have never heard of and I'm pretty sure looking back on the CCTV now they know what they look like will produce said video evidence.

The thing that stands out for me in this thread is the number of "it happens everywhere so it is unfair to fine Cas"

There are two points to remember:
1) Cas have been in trouble recently so have 'prior' to take into consideration (just like when players are before the beak
2) The RFL want to make a point that this behaviour, at any club, is out of line. I think they have got their message across a lot better with this than if they had asked Cas to visit schools and talk about it.

and lastly the fine isn't hurting rugby league, only Cas, though I take your point about the amount being hurtful to a lower club. It would have sunk Wakefield - so I hope we take notice and stop the fans getting out of line too.
