A few super league clubs will be worried now after todays announcement

Why scrap promotion / relegation. Just killing off the championship clubs leaving nothing to play for and same at the bottom end of the table in SL
Basically the championship will be years of friendly's and that it did not work last time and wont work most fans will not bother

Wigan are a category B club. Just saying.

Its all about raising standards, there are a few championship clubs that could get to Category A standards (good stadia, good crowds, good academy product, good results) and would be promoted by license whilst a Category B club (bad, stadia, bad crowds, bad academy product, poor results) would be relegated.

Surely the original framing of the future was to have around 12 Category A clubs, can you imagine if those had a really great acadamy product, we could then reduce the overseas quota and get more player participtation down stream to the grass roots.

It encourages clubs to improve and get investment. Say Bradford for example. If they got the new ground and got a new owner and won the Championship, they'd become a category A club. They'd have good crowds etc. Wakefield will not get a category A licence unless they improve the ground, do better on the field and improve as a club. It'll be interesting to see what the criteria are, hopefully it will incorporate facilities, finances and on field performance and potentially even strategic importance. That is where the controversy often comes into it.

But looking at the proposals, promotion and relegation will exist until there are sufficient category A clubs to fill the 12 spaces. If we have 12 genuinely category A sides then the competition will have gained about 7 from what it has now, which would indicate great progress. It also talks of room to expand to 14 if there are enough A clubs. It all sounds sensible to me and if someone can get investment, good facilities and win the second tier, they're going to have great leverage to get into the top tier, so the arguement that there is nothing to play for is never there. Realistically there might be some minnows that won't have a chance, but they in reality don't have a chance now, they just don't have to face up to that on a daily basis so continuing on is seen as being better.

If they take reassessing the bottom grade clubs licence yearly seriously and the Championship Winner gets a good points score for actually winning something it could just work, but devil is in the detail and they can twist the criteria.

The likes of Wigan and Saints actually have no intention of growing the game but rather keep the power that they have. They are part of the problem. Heathrington as well.

That's one big issue, then there's Hull and Wire who throw money round and don't get anywhere. Cas, Wakefield and Salford live hand to mouth off the SKY money. Hudds can't pay people to go. Rovers are probably at their peak for crowds. Quite a few clubs need a reboot and hopefully licences help turn the tide.

That's simply not true. McManus has often spoken about how turkeys shouldn't be voting for Christmas, most recently on the decisions around Toulouse. Obviously McManus is trying to keep Saints as the best club in RL, but you want your club Directors doing that surely? He's not doing it by weakening the other clubs.

Ive never liked no P + R and wont like it again. Just doesnt do it for me, but if this comes in could be the final nail in the coffin for me with this sport.

The product is poor as it is without taking less interest away.

Not sure I follow the drop in interest with P+R. The devil is in the detail but if (no offence to anyone named or not named) they decide Huddersfield, Salford, Castleford, Hull KR, Wakefield and Toulouse are all Category B and could be relegated on a bad season

Leigh, Featherstone, Halifax and York were all Category B and could be promoted on a good season. That still gives plenty to play for.

The rest of us need to work to improve and get a Category rating to be in contention.

The problems will arise if Category A ratings are handed out across super league making it a closed shop and any bump in popularity and money for the game is kept in super league.

Understand your view but the current setup doesn't work either, the promoted team finds out they have been promoted far too late and stands little chance of staying up. Leigh have spent heavily but can't fully plan next year until Monday, and always a risk there's a bout of Covid in the camp, injuries, freak weather etc and they unexpectedly lose the final.

Whatever system we are using the Championship needs to be first past the post for the champions, to give them more time to plan and the final doesnt exactly set attendance records anyway.

Good post. I would prefer P&R - Bottom club down, top of champ up. The promoted team should be given a seasons grace, and then they could still incorporate the Cat B structure as well. If a top championship team feels they're not quite a Cat B superleague club whilst playing in the championship, they have nothing to play for in the whole of the season. So it should be 1 up 1 down with a seasons grace to the promoted team.

Im thinking more of the side at the bottom of SL towards the back end of the season with little to play for. Didnt work last time and wont again. Also very vague on how you actually go down, it will further the gap in my opinion between teams who have a shiny stadium to those that dont.

Its not right that anything other then on the pitch performances is rewarded. Dont like it for me on the principal.

All the successful franchise systems in sport only add to the elite and not take away. To think you could finish 5th one season and be relegated because a club in the lower league have better bogs for example is just wrong. Its not a sport in my opinion.

Agree that there are downsides, and in my opinion Hull got lazy during the last franchise era, we finished 2nd bottom in 2009 but it all felt very apathetic at the club, if our SL place was on the line some mid season signings would have appeared.

There needs to be a big weighting towards on the field performances. Salford for example will score low on crowds, income and the stadium deal issue but they can argue they've been to 2 finals in 4 years and unearthed 2 man of steels.

You do know a brand new New stand is under construction now at Wakefield. One of the main criteria should be owning your own ground so you're not a soccer clubs bitch.

It's pointless when every year the team promoted is relagated.
