When fev were last in the top flight their players were on a decent wage........3 times that of your average miner....nowadays apart from a few stars, Argos pays as well

| Any system can work depending on who is driving the clubs in that system. There's examples of successes from both.
There are also examples of failures from both.
Let's just leave it at that, eh? It feels like déjà vu!

| Quote: robt90 "if a team such as widnes (or anyone for that matter) next year can't finish in the top 4 of 8 clubs consisting of the worst 4 SL clubs and 4 championship clubs then quite frankly they don't deserve to be in SL. Simple as... people really need to get over this
relegation was STILL on the table during franchising. what do you honestly think would of happened to a club had it been thrown into the wilderness for 3 whole years?? would they have kept their assets then? At least this way with improved funding to the championship they can keep a full time team, just on less money'"
you have completely missed the point.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Any system can work, providing the money is there to make it work, but bottom line is RL doesnt have it
At SL s inception the ' vision ' was big City Clubs in the ' Super Rugby ' ' NFL ' mould , with fans ripping up old aliegances and rivalries and supporting new mega clubs , by now it might have worked but a lot of fans would have walked away, that was the risk
So instead 6 years ago we had a poor attempt at introducing it, always doomed to fail, you cannot set minimum standards and criteria, the ignore them, your credibility goes straight out of the window
So now we are going to have something quite radical, that has been dumped or failed in other sports, but That doesnt mean it cant or wont work for us, ultimatly it is still down to individual clubs and how they perform OFF field that will decide how successful they are, not where they are located

| Widnes are a positive of franchising. Bradford x2, Wakefield, Crusaders are an argument why it doesn't work.

Are they?
Bradford are a failure or management and governance.
Would Wakefield have been in any better position if under threat from relegation?
Would we have two thriving semi-pro sides in Wales if not for the leg up Crusaders gave the game there?
In 2009, Crusaders finished bottom, in 2010 they finished in the playoffs
In 2010 Les Catalans finished bottom in 2011 they finished in the play-offs,
In 2011 Crusaders finished bottom again and were relegated.
In 2012 Widnes finished bottom.
In 2013 Salford finished bottom.
Would any of those clubs have been better placed, would the game have been in any better position if those clubs had been relegated? Franchising was working.

I wouldn't say that there's any evidence to suggest that the reason these clubs went belly up is because of franchising, as opposed to the way the club was run.

| unfortunately we need a safe enviroment to bring young players into the game at the top level, will clubs in fear of relegation take the time needed to integrate them into their team......probably not.
P & R is a backward step along with increasing the non-fed quota........
I would like to see any player under 21 not count on salary cap and under 23 only 50% of salary to count encourage teams who can afford it to go out and bring the young players through

| Quote: gutterfax "Very true.
Broncos would be bankrupt (again) within 6 month in the championship
Championship teams have been running on a shoestring for years. They have learnt to keep their house in order and had to find other ways of generating income. Unlike a lot of super league teams who have been lazy, just relying on SL handouts and Rich backers.
Fev already have full time conditioners, some players and coaching staff. Come 2015 the whole team will be full time. They are signing young quality players who can make the step up. If they were to win the Million quid game they may have had 3 seasons full time by then. they wouldn't need to go hell for leather trying to build team in 3 months within this new structure. They only need to build a team capable of remaining in super league via the second group of 8 not the top 8 of SL. While taking the cash each year and building gradually.
Unlike super league teams who are used to the SL income and some mainly reliant on it. Im sure some Championship teams would cope pretty well with the extra sky money and increase in match day income without going bankrupt in 15 months.

| Brilliant, so we have a season where Fev's only aim is to win 5 of the last 8 games, and the rest are irrelevant, thats what will get the sponsors interested and fans through the door.
22 game pre-season and 8 game season.
Its funny how easy championship fans think the step up will be. That all they need is a little extra money and they will be a competitive mid-lower SL side. When in reality we already know what a championship squad with a little extra money and a few extra players looks like. Leigh put 5 points on the board. Halifax ended with 0.

Wondered how long it would be before the local troll turned up
Funny how Superleague fans who have watched team be mismanaged for years believe its so hard.
you know what I mean, of course they will try and be competitive, but they dont need to try and win SL in one season.
Next you will be telling me that having a 3 year franchise is better because in your first season you dont have to spend like mad to stay in the league and you can build gradually - oh wait .....
