| Blah blah blah.
Bottom line, the big games will achieve respectable attendances, the smaller games will be hit and miss.
Bar some aussies and kiwis theres not going to be any other decent amount of support from abroad, so it's tough to get people from these cities and towns down to games when they have no real association with the teams. There will be some hardcore fans that get down to games as neutrals but rugby league doesn't have that same standing in sport where masses of neutrals will get to games.
Overall the attendances figures probably will top that of the 2008 world cup, hopefully, which should make it a success.

I think you might be in for a pleasant surprise. I understand the game at Rochdale, Ireland v Fiji is heading for a sellout. The games at Workington involving Scotland have virtually sold out the stands. Even the game at Bristol, arguably the smallest draw in the whole competiton, Cook islands v USA was reporting good sales for the stands. the French game at Avignon is heading for a 20,000 sell out. The stand at Neath for Wales v Cook Islands has only 22 tickets available. The game at the Shay involving Italy is also selling well.
The official World Cup web site was reporting that there have been significant sales to non RL fans.
Hull is a RL hotbed and I can see the games there going well.
I think over 3,000 tickets have been sold for the game at Limerick, which is pretty good for a game in a union stronghold in a very minor RL playing nation.
I think that the reputation for all the South Sea island teams for playing attractive rugby and the pre match war dances will be a significant draw fir British people in an British autumn. There are 5 of these, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea.
In any case I am optomistic that this tournament is going to be very successful from the big games down to the smaller venues and minor teams.

I criticize the logic of having the game at a stadium like Neath which clearly isn't suitable for staging international competition. Then again, I guess they were probably the only bidding stadium in South Wales.

I think giving a game to the people of the valleys instead of making them travel to Cardiff or Wrexham is a good pr move and could jump start support for the Scorpions as a plus.
The game is never likely to attract a huge attendance given the current state of Welsh RL and so this stadium is probably adequate and if it sell out or nearly so, it will look good on TV and highlights will be replayed on the BBC to a large audience if Wales manage to move to the next stages and previews, pregame shows need content.
Wales will have played at their national stadium before a good crowd in the opener, in South Wales for this fixture, hopefully sold out, and in North Wales at Wrexham for their game against the USA, where Crusaders larger support base and it's proximity to the lancashire heartlands should attract a decent attendance. This is a good geographical spread covering all sections of the country and should be a promotional vehicle for the game as a whole in Wales and also for a likely quarter final also at Wrexham.
Of course there's the small problem of qualifiying from a group containing the Australian second team.
Overall, though, O don't think the Neath fixture is that bad a choice.

| The game won't look good on TV regardless of the attendance because of the size and state of the ground, in fact I don't know if The Gnoll even has permanent TV facilities. The stadium is suitable for a club like South Wales Scorpions but not for a major international tournament. It's a shame the only alternative in close proximity is the Liberty Stadium which would be too big and probably too expensive to rent.

Could have used Parc y Scarlets but woud have been a kick in the teeth to the Scorpions and the right choice in my book. The ground held over 7000 for a Neath v Swansea pre season friendly a few years back so it can cope with big gates when required.

200,000 tickets sold so far is the official line.......40% of their self set target.
Not sure what you consider positive, but Cardiff, wembley and old Trafford hold 240,000 on their own.

I consider 2/3 of An England group game sold 100 days out to be pretty positive...

Really?
I'd consider an England Group game in a world cup hosted in England (In the heartlands) not sold out hours from general release in a stadium that only holds 25,000 anything but positive.

For a game against an essentially made-up team representing a country that has virtually no interest in the sport, it's not bad TBH (if it's accurate).
