| I think Derwents idea is awesome and Id make the trip up for such a game.
Honestly TrinityIHC, I'm not comparing the two directly. Only that the comment was made that rugby should support the South Pacific as it was rugby's community. Cumbria is just that.
We are not talking vast sums here, but anything raise for the volunteer services would surely be welcomed and a nice show of unity for the people who have been hit by the awful events of the last few days.
Come on RFL, I know you guys read this forum - what can you do?

| Great idea. Cumbria playing against attractive opposition would be a great shout for the game.

| Quote: Derwent "Speaking as someone from Workington, I'd like to see a fund raising game but for the proceeds to go to the volunteer organisations that have risked their own safety to help others during this awful time.
The likes of the mountain rescue teams and the RNLI crews have been fantastic and it would be nice to give them something back in return for them to get new equipment etc'"
It would have my support even if the amount raised is small it would just show our support. It would also help out the non profit agencies who do so much to help.

I hate it when events like this occur in the UK as it seems to me like we don’t care about the suffering some people are going through in our own country.
If this was some war torn/developing far away country then without a shadow of a doubt there would be a national outcry for money and aid to be sent over. The Red Cross would be handing out all sorts of different items but yet we just don’t seem to get the same level of response when it happens over here?
Don’t get me wrong the Red Cross maybe there but I’ve not heard much from them?'"
Speaking as someone who all my life has been involved in responding to disasters around the world from the Bangladesh floods in 1969 to flood relief in Mozambique (due to being involved with Helicopter operations) the reason you hear an apeal for help from poor counties is because they have nothing to help themselves with. This country we pay our taxes national & locall & they are required by law to have contingencys in place to pay for & deal with emergencys they dont always get it right but they are co ordinated & train for it, the forces Armed & civil are equiped to respond. even the NHS will have had lists of blood donors ready if they needed to call on them non of this gets much publicity as it just seems to happen. It is one benefit of living in a stable country in a stable part of the world. The people in Cumbria will have seen this first hand & will know the work of the savation army & WRVS ect.

Applaud everyone for pushing this and really hope the RFL do pay attention and work overtime to get a fundraiser on.
But if any of you really want to give something to help those affectedhttp://www.cumbriafoundation.org/rl

| Ah, yes. Who could forget how the RL community rushed to organise a benefit game for the people of Hull when we were flooded a couple of years back (also resulting in a death)?

to compare the situation of that in Cumbria to that in the Pacific region is laughable
These people (should) have insurance, they have the NHS - i'm sure they can cope with a wet carpet, broken TV and a bit of a longer commute to work.

| No, no and no.
Its about time people in this country stopped this infatuation with begging. We pay plenty of taxes to cope with mishaps like this.
Hey, any banks flooded? That should get the government to throw in a couple of BILLION

Almost as laughable as your ability to read! Noone did compare and it was stressed a second time to confirm!
As for begging, its not. Begging is something where you ask for donations - money for nothing other than the satisfaction of giving. Where you pay to watch a game and profits are given to a chosen cause is not begging, its a fund raiser.
And nobody would be made to go!
God forgive people for thinking of others!

It wasn't necessary then, and it isn't necessary now. There are far more deserving causes.
