Quite correct Salford is a big city, it just doesn't unfortunately support its Rugby Team in numbers, but, those that do are passionate and wouldn't entertain a Manchester moniker. What also must be considered is that any RL interest in Manchester is by and large 'ex pats' from towns, some of which are in Greater Manchester, that have their own RL teams, a Wiganer living in Didsbury isn't going to suddenly follow Manchester Rangers home and away.
Wrencat's post was disappointingly way off the mark "if we're that bothered...." in that vain 'we' could increase interest in West Yorkshire Rugby League by renaming teams Wakefield Tigers and Wakefield Rovers to match their postcodes, as that would simplify the nation's understanding that these games are local derbies and market them accordingly.
