Why not! They used to before SL. I'm sure in Tawera Nikau's book he states that due to the run that Castleford had one year in league, CC, Regal Trophy and play offs. He played over 40 games and the only game he missed that season was the Cas v NZ game, has he'd been picked in the touring side. I imagine a lot of Wigan players of that day and age also would of played over 40 games in a season, and don't forget these were 'part-time' players with other jobs on the side!
