The 'Tragic' tag is tounge in cheek, i have friends who are season ticket holders at other clubs and will not pay £15 to go and watch MM this year purley because of the location, if you know Eastlands, Etihad is a good 20-25min walk from Piccadilly station with limited public transport links if you are not driving. '"
Do many people go to away matches on the trains? I'd say there's lots of grounds in the league that are more than 20-25 minutes walk from a convenient train station. So I'm not really sure that train station locations has played a part in deciding on a venue.
And with your original point I suppose it comes down to how much you love the game, and can market it to your mates. I work around the Manchester area with a majority of people who don't really watch RL on TV, and none of them go to games. Yet I'll still get a group of tickets for the grand final every year for us all because I told them it'll be a great day/night after, and they enjoyed it so much we've been going every year since.
When I told them they could get a full weekend ticket for around £50 to watch as many games as they like, and a full weekend of drinking and banter thrown in they were all signing up. I've got a group of 6 of us weekend tickets, and a dozen or so others for single day tickets. Now they're not spectacular numbers, but that's pretty much just people I work with and only 2 of those watch RL on TV.
You can either big it up to your mates as a great day for £30 or you say "I know you don't like rugby league, but do you fancy paying £30 to sit through 3 whole games live?"
