Stevo's 'momentum rule' is simply referring to the phrase in the RFL Laws stating that the thrower's MOMENTUM means the ball can travel forward relative to the ground, but still travel backwards in relation to himself. It's all about momentum.
Try running forwards at full pelt and passing the ball backwards in relation to the point the ball leaves your hands. You'd literally have to hurl it behind you.
