To all those in the area can I bring to your attention this year's Inter-Services Rugby League games? They are as followsArmy Rugby Stadium, Queens Avenue, Aldershot

8th September - Army Vets v RAF Vets, KO 7pm
9th September - Same games but ladies (KO 3pm), Academy (KO 5pm) and Main Game (KO 6pm).

RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire

17th September - RAF Vets v Navy Vets, KO 6pm
18th September - Same games but ladies (KO 2pm), Academy (KO 4pm) and Main Game (KO 6pm).

Navy Sports Ground, Burnaby Road, Portsmouth

24th September - Navy Vets v Army Vets, KO 7pm
25th September - Same games but ladies (KO 3pm), Academy (KO 5pm) and Main Game (KO 7.30pm)

The Inter-Services in League has been going since 1998 although the RAF v Army game has a history going back to 1994. The Navy are defending champions and have dedicated league players so should be good.

Entrance is free so if you are going beyond the M62 corridor then the games will be good and hard-fought.

Go to as many as these games as possible for the last 5 years. Especially the navy army fixture which is always a hardly fought battle with possibly one of the biggest rivalries i have seen between 2 rugby league teams, they really do hate each other.

Who do you think will win this year, as every year it will be close me thinks, but between the army and navy, i think the army will try and bully the navy, but navy have a lot of class and will come out on top again.

As for the RAF, well anything can happen with them as we have seen over the years!!!

I have read this post with interest, I dont know anything about the forces League teams I just am amused as I was banned from all sport in the Navy & denied a place on a promotion course a a punishment for having been injured at a trial for League club. I still have the letter informing me that I had prostituted my skills & was to be considered a professional & therefore banned sine die from all amature sports in the armed forces.
I am happy to see that times have quiet rightly moved on. As a foot note I had great pleasure a couple of years ago (when my son's side knocked the Navy out of the chalenge cup) of showing the letter to the Commander who came along to the game.

who did your son play for? what was you in the navy, and how long did you do? i have a mate both in the army and navy, although the navy lad doesnt play rugby

I did 23 years but have been out for nearly 20 now I was Fleet air arm, the irony is that as I was turned off the officers promotion course i stayed an engineer & consequently earn a damed good living now as opposed to being in an office job (ex officers find getting good jobs hard) so playing league did me some good.
