Good chance for the 19s to get some games against open age opposition and for those not in the first team 17 to get a look in.

You can start to see the advantages just from looking at that squad

1. The chance for people who have been injured to get game time (Oakes, Kirk)

2. The opportunity for fringe players not currently in the 17 to get a game (Davies, Rickett, Goodall, Hodgson)

3. More chance to assess trialists (Andrade, Burnett, King)

4. A chance for young lads to play against men rather than boys ( the rest of the squad)

It does make you wonder why all teams don't run reserves

Is that definitely Ross Oakes? I was hoping he'd be in the 19 for Sunday...

If he's in the plans for Saturday he might just be getting a half to prove himself fit?

I'm going to be there anyway. Hopefully be a good performance from the lads and be nice to visit my old amateur club too.

Damn, I was hoping Johnson would be back.

Think Oakes is suffering from having a slow start to the season in the friendlies. Also with Lee Smith being made captain and seemingly assured of a place he's even less chance of getting in unless Smith or Gibson get injured. Even then it seems Liam Johnson is ahead of him (when fit).

I'm sure I saw an interview with Kear where he said Halafihi and Johnson were both fit.
