For those who can remember back to the 80s, Dean was a great player for Northern and a top bloke as well. I had the pleasure of playing with him at West Bowlng at the back end of his career.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people on here that will remember him from his Northern days
My condolences to all who knew Dean. I remember him playing for Northern back in the 80's when I was a kid and he always seemed to have natural ability. If my memory serves me I think he played stand off and I seem to recall him kicking left footed, though that may be wrong.
I can certainly remember him playing cricket for Buttershaw St Pauls as they were in the Bradford Central league at the time and so was my father's team.
That's really sad to hear about. I played for Bradford schools with Dean way back in 1976/77. Dean and his brother Steve were half backs in an U-16 squad containing Gary Priestley, Geoff Pryce, Mark Jackson and Brian Noble. He seemed to get pushed out at Odsal when Terry Holmes got signed and I think went to Carlisle.
That's right Jack. He left the Northern when they signed Terry Holmes, a decision he told me he regretted, he said if he had been patient he wouldn't of been pushed out with Holmes injury record
