standardised stats cumulative round 2. I have grouped players by position (according to the bulls website) to help comparison, and I have done it in sections of stats to shed light upon various topics , so amount played, offence, defence, B***s ups. So statements such as "Langley is always injured" "Sibbit does nothing" etc can be quantified.

obvious comments are, Kearney is more of an offensive than a defensive fullback, chev is doing the defensive work but making a lot of errors, Scruton is still below his previous form on carries and tackles. Sibbit and Langley tackling machines, Langley making good metres but few carries. Crookes is going well.

Not so obvious. Gale is making more kicks than last year, and making fewer and less distance on carries. Sammut has made fewer metres on his carries than last year but making more tackle busts, clean breaks and assists, kicking less. Sibbit has done about 30% less carries than previous year, but 100% more tackles at a lower missed tackle rate of 4%, so a big upping in contribution from him. Also few changes between the 2 games, dread to think what the stats were last year.

conclusions: the structure is right - Gale doing the kicking Sammut the running, Walker and Purtell good tackling (so Kearney doesnt have to do much), with massive room for improvement from more games together and better match fitness, eg Walkers usual error rate is 10% of carries not 40%, Sammuts average metres per carry is 7 rather than 4, Scruton previously did twice as many carries a game, and theres mnm Elima Lulia Pryce etc to come back to make the fight for places even more intense. So we are heading in the right direction, with the forwards for me the main focus for continued improved performance. and the aim of that improved performance is to beat everybody in the bottom half of the table and Leeds, and nick anything we can against the rest, = playoffs. The next game against Hull is going to be a good benchmark for me.

any comments/suggestions on improvements most welcome. And of course you know that I am going to say this, comments that shed light upon the stats most welcome for example all chevs mistakes have been due to bad passes from other players so not his fault, etc. And if anyone wants to help with the % available data that would be appreciated as I could also change the % played to % selected, a big improvement

That looks awesome, but some of the figures seem odd at first glance.

Kearney with no offloads, and 0.5 for clean breaks, assists and tries?
Kear with 1.5 tackle busts etc.

Still, that must have taken some time and it is very much appreciated, perhaps just a few tweeks needed icon_thumb.gif

But yes interesting stuff. I noticed without seeing stats that we're relying on Gale an awful lot for kicks, which he is very good at.. but might see him getting closed down if we give it to him everytime to kick.

Yes, sorry, I havent explained "standardised". Most of the stats are per game but errors are per carry as I thought that was more relevant, and missed tackles is a % of tackles made, again more relevant and a useful stat alongside the tackles per game. And yes even standardised the stats still need to be read carefully, as standardising some of the stats by time on pitch rather than game would be better, Donaldson for example is down as playing a whole game this week which has destroyed his stats as he hardly had time to do anything before injury.

Good stuff Martin. How do I fit it onto my screen, some of the stats are behind the sponsors logos on the right. Is my laptop too small?

Martin - that's excellent, Keep it up, these stats will improve in average worth over longer periods.

In response to your request for comments, I would suggest you switch columns "metres per carry" and "carries" for clarity of sequence.
There might be further clarity between columns "attacking kicks" and "meters" as there seems some confusion there.
Would be good to see a subset of reasons for "penalties" if this could be done.
You might also explain what circumstances explain a missed tackle.

For the guys who do not have a 22" monitor you might think about also providing an abbreviated version.

I'm not sure that the % Available, % Selected and % Played has any consequence to the playing stats

right click the image on the post and use the save image or copy image command, then save in Word so you can re-size to your requirements.

MyuncleBob, thanks for the feedback, will look at the column switch. The attacking kicks (as opposed to kicks in general play) is next to metres carried as in my opinion the metres gained by a good kick are just as good as metres gained by a carry, I think the pack would say even better. unfortunately the metres gained by attacking kicks is not given so the number is the next best thing. But if there is universal outcry I will alter it. Unfortunately I cannot get to many games and it would need someone who does to keep a tally of the reasons for penalties and missed tackles every game. But you are right, it is the sort of further information that throws light on a players performance. some penalties are point savers, others are stupid point givers, big difference.

the % played is relevant to see who is in favour, but even more important, whether a player has been at match fitness or speed, call it what you want, which is different from physically fit. Langleys stats last season imo show the consequences of his injuries, he never really got up to his previous standards. And if the least experienced of one of the players in a position eg Obrien has played 100%, is that simply because those above have not been injured or because he is so d****d good hes pinched the spot.

and thanks to all for the encouragement.

which is the last column you can see on the right? I will use that to cut the size of the image down so it fits. or if you have excel and want the spreadsheet message me your email address and I will send it to you, Bullseye i sent you a message along those lines too, but its stuck in teh outbox.

I have just added a calculation for the current round, and a comparison of this years cumulative stats with the last 2 years. That shows for example that Hargreaves has upped his stats on offence and defence so far this year and his b***s up stats have improved, difficult as they were very good anyway. and that even the "youngsters" have accumulated quite a bit of experience, and how bad last year was for Platt vs the previous year.

Cheers, I'll try that when I get my PC set up. The laptop I'm using has the browser set up without a vew menu or any other sort of menu! In short it's a pain in the backside!
