We've heard it mentioned quite a few times before now that Platt was offered a pretty good package when he last signed a contract extension.
I'm not sure how much truth there is in this, but if we could save some money on Platt and re-sign Ainscough instead it might free up some cash to spend on other areas of the squad.

Platt was a starting 13 player when he signed his last deal. He's know a squad player and any new deal offered would reflect that I'd imagine. Suspect we could get ainscough and platt on not much more than we're paying platt alone now. Gives us some reasonable quality cover in backs. Don't think anyone's suggesting either would be a guaranteed starting player. Both squad players IMO

I`m sorry to say this but for all shaun`s undoubted commitment to the cause there was not a queue of SL clubs trying to sign him, like his alter ego (opposite) Karl Pryce nobody wanted them, Why the hell should we? Just cos he may come cheap is not plausible.

Platt is a decent wing and cover for who's worth a renewal on acceptable terms.
Ainscough is lively but ineffectual in both defense and attack (in that order) and was rejected by the club.

Not according to reports at the time or indeed Ainscough himself. He was offered a deal but he thought he was worth more than offered.

Your understanding was wrong then. We offered him a new deal but on less money. Other SL clubs not picking him up was probably because of how late in recruitment season he became available. Most clubs had competed signing players by time our takeover and subsequent resignings went through.

TBH, I'd be surprised to see Ainscough back at Odsal.

It seems clear that Cummins doesn't rate him that highly or would have offered him a better deal or on the same terms as was already on, not a lower deal, before he left.

Don't get me wrong, the lad has the right attitude on the field, a decent pair of hands and a fair amount of pace. I just don't think he's quite up to SL standard.

Lots of people on the Hull message board seem to think Carvell is on his way to us.

League Weekly has also reported it today. Nothing confirmed but quotes FC as saying the first signing unveiled "will certainly surprise people". Also says they should be in a position to announce "as early as next week" which I'm reading to mean sometime this week if they got the quote last week.

If it's Carvell then he'd add some much needed size and experience to the pack, we'd just need to make sure he stays fit. He's been linked with both Hull clubs and I'd be surprised if Salford weren't interested given Nobby's liking for older forwards.

Any signings we do make I'd expect to be forwards.

Wigan have just signed Hopkins from Leigh so another Prop they have may be worth us trying to sign some of their fringes ie. Dudson, would be a great signing.
