| Godwin is poor.
Diskin is a strange signing, for a variety of reasons. Been fairly poor for Rhinos this year, predominantly because he's not as effective as an interchange hooker. For him to be signed for this role at a club, which let's face it, is far poorer, indicates his financial offer must have been pretty good.
With 3 hookers on the roster, it's a strange one and a clear indication that either Wagga is moving on or either or into another position, namely 7. Which seems slightly odd.
Very strange one all round.

we're making assumption there that diskin will be the bench hooker though. Although my preference would be for l'estrange to start we shouldnt forget that he was always a bench hooker at manly. Maybe he actually prefers that role?.
like you say though cant see us keeping 3 hookers on roster purely as hookers. A few clubs have 3 hookers on the books but the 3rd is usually a young academy product on relatively little money. If diskin move goes through we have 3 who are SL level (admittedly godwin probably wouldnt command a starting spot anywhere but would certainly get a bench role somewhere in SL). Ones going to be playing in halves or moving on imo.

| Quote: DILLIGAF "It brings competition for place in the hookers. Which we don't currently have.
O'Brien is still too young. With that in mind, L'Estrange & Godwin are guaranteed to play every week when fit. Seems from the other positions that Potter doesn't like guaranteed places. Bringing Diskin in means 3 hookers fighting for 2 places.
If we assume nobody is going, except Orford, this now means that the ONLY positions we don't have competition for is the halves. With 2 or 3 signings left to come, that could be resolved too.
I don't think this signing necessarily means anyone is moving on.'"
Not sure you'd give someone a three year deal just to provide competition, more like you have something more definite in mind. Whether this means Potter intends to use one of his 'hookers' in the halves is something only he knows of course, but I'd suspect it was a likely, if not exactly welcome, outcome. There are still far too many ifs and buts surrounding our halves for next season and the position isn't improved by a gutless number seven who won't publicly commit one way or the other but, apparently, continues to offer his services all round the antipodes.
Maybe the club DO know what is going on, but haven't announced it (well, it won't help ticket sales will it?) and are trying to work round it, who knows. We just have to hope the coach does have a plan and he's driving it through.

| It's certainly out of left field, I guess it may all make sense when we see what else is in the pipeline.
IMO Diskin is better than Godwin. As I said I can see him becoming our starting No9.

More the fact that we offered him a 3 year deal and the Rhinos only gave him 1 year from what I understand, rather than the amount of money.

Possibly. Their offer of a 1 year deal, one would assume, indicates their desire to work with McShane and Hood as regulars and invest the cap elsewhere in 2011. Wise. Interesting that no fee was requested, presumably because Rhinos respected his contribution and probably wanted to save his ££££.
Hooker, I didn't see as being a priority for us. Heath was pretty sharp this year, in a tough first term. Overall Diskin is still very likely to be spelled which just doesn't suit him or make the best of his engine.
Diskin was an exceptional player, quite if he will remain to be so is different altogether. A 3 year contract is very generous. We shall see.

| He's won four grand finals with the Rhinos and when Buderus was out Leeds cuonted on him and he didn't let them down.
If it does come off (and it sounds almost certain) then i'd expect Godwin to move on, as I can't see him being happy as back up.
I honestly cant see Heath or Wagga being moved into the halves. Wagga is nowhere near creative enough imo, and although Heath will do a job there, we wouldn't want him as starting 7 and his best attribute, running from DH would be wasted.
Diskin to start, Heath to come on and run at tired defences. Whilst he's been excellent starting, I think he could do even better if he comes on and runs and puts people through gaps.
Wagga, Hall & Platt to Cas for Rangi Chase?

Throw in Worrincy (literally) and it would be a deal clincher.
Or Cas would rightly say "feck off you jokers but instead we'll give you the games most over rated player, Joe Westerman"

Platt would fill the centre berth left by Shenton, they were interested in Hall. Godwin is a former player and not a bad one, I know it's very wishful thinking but i'd love to see Chase at the Bulls.

| Good signing imo, I wonder if Cummins played a part in this signing.

| I really feel this could come back to bite Leeds just like Jimmy did in 1996.

Interesting you should mention westerman as I suspect he's the reason leeds want diskin off their cap.

Diskin out to accomodate Westerman. Has McClennan gone mad?
