| Indeed. And indeed they would.
You sort of get the impression that if Hall asked for a release the board would jump at the chance? Be a big shame though, since I'm sure he could do a hell of a job for us if whatever it was made him crap last year was resolved.

| Glenn Hall was not the only player to under perform last season, some of the reasons are pretty obvious others still are behind the scenes and will come out eventually!
All last seasons senior players still here, have a lot to prove to themselves individually and collectively! The main trouble being when the going got tough they disappeared. A change of Team Captain has to be on the cards as Lynchy was distinctly unimpressive in that role as Worrincy was in his! There seems to be an "old guard" malaise in the camp and Potter may just decide to shake them up a bit more by appointing one the new intake or possibly one of Aussies!

| Whilst I cannot speak for any of the other "moaners" as kindly highlighted a couple of posts above (and of course backed up in a following post by a usual suspect) I will re-iterate what I have said elsewhere.
The slate is clean - McNamara is away and for me he was the main cause of the problems of the last few seasons. I moaned about his tactics, his signings, his inability to get things right and look where we finished in the league? Bloody embarrassing and I rightly moaned because it was bloody unacceptable.
Guess what then? We get in a new man who instantly gets rid of a large amount of McNamaras' dross (Potter must has the same opinions as me ) and things are looking a hell of a lot brighter. I am well excited about the upcoming season despite what a few people might want to keep going on about. (The irony - moaning about moaners.)
So here is to 2011. And I hope we can get back up there competing again because we have not been for a while now but the main cause of that is now busy dismantling the national side. They are welcome to him - I look forward to the Potter years with a great deal of hope. More than I have had for too long now.

Personally, I think you get way too much grief on here Eddie. You're entitled to your opinion and others should respect that rather than having a dig.

Perhaps, but Eddie is also responsible for a fair few sly digs towards other posters so I'm not quite as sympathetic as you're.
However I do welcome Eddies optimism for the new season and I look forward to not having another season of sack McNamara polls. I personally feel we may struggle a bit at the start of the year, I just hope the fans will give Potter some time to make the team his own. But I think we have a squad good enough to make a better start than last year!

I'm think there's some kind of hidden code in the letter you've capitalised.
It must tell us the name of our next signing - STAN NOTICKY the Walla Walla Waybuloo Stand Off?

Don't laugh!
I was crook with S&D on Thursday, and spent Thursday night in a state of delirium. Slept all Friday morning, finally managed to catch up with developments early afternoon, and what did I read?
I thought I must still be delirious and should be back in bed...I kid you not.

Dunno about Hall, to tell the truth. He came with a fair rep from Aus but, let's be honest, didn't live up to it, and some of the stuff he was, rightly criticised for, like poor handling skills, were pretty basic stuff, which we usually expect players brought up through Australian junior systems to excel at. I think the Hall we originally signed definitely[ihas the ability [/ito be a big player for us, but if the same one as played last time turns up then, he won't be. I can't imagine what happened to his form when he moved to the UK, or even if it is 'resolvable', but we have a new team, and a new beginning so, if he stays, let's hope it's a new start for him too.

Probably so, though it's hard to guess just what Potter will do if we're left without a stand off.
I feel a bit sorry for Sykesy to be honest, he's not a half, he's a reasonable utility back in the centres or at full back, but if he puts his hand up to cover such a specialised position, I hope he gets respect for doing so, and not slated if it doesn't work.

| I would hope that if we don't bring another 6 in, then Kearney would be the option we go with there.
With Royston, Platt, Sykes & Ah Van perfectly capable of playing fullback (as well as Halley when he's back from injury), it's not as if we'll be short there. Yes fullback might be Kearney's best position, but he is the best 6 currently at this club IMO (not counting Herbert who I honestly know nothing about) so that is the best choice.
I much prefer Sykes at fullback and Kearney at 6 than the other way around.
Hopefully it will all be academic though and we'll see a new one come in soon.

| On another point - if we are getting Leon (and it's still a big if) he may not be fit for the start of the season depending on his surgery. So we might start with Sykes until Leon gets fit...........
Thought I'd add that as Leon's name hadn't been mentioned on this page......

Cas go for Monaghan with four clubs "interested" in his signiture.
news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_l ... 190406.stm
IMO we should be looking to offload Hall and get this lad in. It would provide a more balanced squad and improve the quality levels significantly. We look pretty strong at second row and prop yet lack some real class in the backs.

| Let's say Cas are wanting to sign Monaghan. Theoretically, if he agreed terms with Bradford and wanted to sign for us, it would be on the proviso we got rid of someone on our quota. The only rumour we've heard from this is Glenn Hall possibly to Cas. If Cas want Monaghan themselves, would they be willing to take Hall off our hands in order for us to sign Joel instead? Or would they say no, bugger off, so that we can't sign Monaghan and he's more likely to pick another club?
All theoretical obviously, but just pointing out that if you put the rumours together, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The only way we're getting Monaghan is if Glenn Hall is off back to Aus, as has also been rumoured on here.
If Monaghan is really interested in having a massive season over here, then I'd love to see him sign for us. I'll happily ignore the "controversy" as I think it's been massively blown out of proportion anyway. The only reason I wouldn't want him is if he's just treating it as a holiday until he can play in Oz again, Chris Walker style. If he's committed to playing his best, he would be a superb signing for any SL club.

We can certainly live and hope. Potter has cleared out a lot of dross since he came along. Adding Hall to the list of them would be the icing on the cake.
