I assume this will only be about registration if rog is correct about him being sacked. I'm hearing we checked with the RFL first though, so I'm a bit confused.
There is precedent in football about players being sacked but the club (highest profile being Chelsea) getting a fee.
I don't think there is precedent in rugby league.
Obviously there is previous with "first refusal" clauses which we know about

Taking a wild guess at this but my thoughts are as follows:

It looks like posturing by the Eagles they have no money to get into a legal stoush neither do the Bulls, the so called comparisons with Harris are irrelevant, the Sod Hall mob aren't going to sanction a signing if there is a real problem, its just a miffed Club doing it's best to derail the Bulls over the weekend, nothing wrong in that just a bit of gamesmanship, just roll with it as it will just go away!

The RFL don't check on the contractual position, nor should they - that would open them to possible liability. All they do is register a player. If you tell them you've signed a player you apply to register him, and if the registration is accepted then he can play for you.

Whether contractually he is still in some relationship with his former club is irrelevant. So no reason why he can't play once we hold his registration, and a contractual dispute wouldn't stop the RFL registering him (see case of Harris, I.) But if Sheffield still hold his registration, then of course he cant play for us until that changes.

It's a play for

A) a bit of compo
B) weakening our position for as long as possible.

I hope it comes back and bites them.

Tbf he was in the wrong getting sacked but has to be allowed to move on.
A player is no good to you if they don't want to play, we know that all to well.

This is very strange, if you sack somebody can you still hold their registration?

On what we have to go on so far, it would appear that Sheffield are being deliberately awkward for whatever reason. I expect it to be resolved fairly quickly but probably not before the crucial Easter period. Whether they have deliberately done that once they knew he was joining a rival is anyone's guess.

It is clear that Chisholm wants to be back at the Bulls so it will be a case of when, we just need to find out why the Eagles have got their knickers in a twist over this particular move!

It's a ridiculous situation if the RFL don't check whether a player is registered with another club before entering new registration details.

If what Dane said on twitter is true, then it sounds to me like the papers he signed and Sheffield had promised to file with the rfl yesterday afternoon was in fact his playing registration (or release of such).
I really hope Dane is being honest and has email/text message proof of Sheffield's instructions. The speed at which Sheffield put their press release out last night kind of makes me think they knew what they were doing.

A shame really because up until now we've not had any bad blood with the Eagles. But if this is some spiteful attempt to disrupt our season then they can f*ck right off.

The cynic in me thinks the same. How long did Sheffields statement come out after ours? 5 mins? If Sheffield have said they will release him at a certain time to make us think its ok to sign him, then not done it to essnetially cry foul, then thats low. Almost laying a trap and we're naive to fall for it.

If they did sack him as Roger said then they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Lets hope some head banging happens and this gets sorted amicably.
